This traditional seaside fisherman cottage sleeps 4 people and offers the perfect cosy retreat for families and couples seeking a relaxing holiday or a romantic break. Thimble cottage is just a stroll from the beach, perfect as a base for touring the picturesque suffolk coastal area.

The space
A gorgeous haven for couples and families, it is a wonderful holiday base throughout the year, with coast, countryside, culture & food on the doorstep. Days at the beach, sailing, horseriding, fishing, birdwatching, relaxing galore!

This lovely Victorian fisherman's cottage is in the heart of Southwold in the high street, 350 yards from the beach and 5 yards from Southwold quirky shops and mouth-watering eateries. Thimble cottage is a lovely cosy cottage, full of character and exceptionally comfortable, clean and well-equipped, including the use of unlimited Wi-Fi and super fast broadband.

Thimble cottage is close to an excellent selection of shops, restaurants, characterful pubs, excellent art galleries, a cinema and a theatre. The cottage is also a few paces from one of the most famous Brewery shops in the country – the Adnams shop.

There are excellent restaurants just a couple of minutes walk away - the Sole Bay Fish Co, Sutherland House and the Adnams Cafe are all excellent as well as several others.

As you step out of the cottage door the promenade and beach are a few paces in one direction, and the high street just yards away the other way. Despite the central location, the cottage is delightfully peaceful.

There is also public parking just outside at the back of the cottage.

The cottage has been re-furbished in a light but luxurious style and has been brought into the 21st century, with contemporary kitchen and bathroom and very comfy furnishings. On the ground floor it has a lovely open plan living room - dining space with a well-equipped kitchen and a ground floor third single bedroom. There is a shared sunny courtyard with outside furniture too.

On the first floor it has a master bedroom, which is cosy and peaceful with Victorian sash windows and a solid wood frame double size bed. There is also a second guest bedroom, which is furnished with a single bed made of wood frame and superior quality mattress, covered with natural linen. There is also a newly fitted shower room.

Neighbourhood highlights

Southwold is a picturesque and beautiful English seaside town, set in a time warp and preserved perfectly. The sandy beach is adorned with a string of colourful beach huts that lead along to Southwold Pier at one end and towards Southwold Harbour at the other end. One of Southwold's main attractions is its working lighthouse.

Southwold boasts several excellent pubs and restaurants as well as a range of independent shops and galleries. There is a pretty walk through the harbour and over a footbridge to the picture-postcard village of Walberswick, home to two good pubs (The Anchor and The Bell) and a long sandy beach.

Fresh fish can be bought from the fish huts along the harbour. Southwold is home to the Adnams Brewery and the Town’s excellent pubs, including one of our personal favourites, The Lord Nelson – where you can try a range of Adnams bitters.

Thimble cottage is set right on Southwold's vibrant high street, where there are a number of interesting quaint shops to browse around plus those catering for all essentials – including... a newsagents; a bakers – selling bread and cakes baked here in the town; a stationers – also selling a good range of postcards with local scenes; a pharmacy; a traditional butchers shop - selling locally- reared meat and hand-made sausages and pies; two bookshops – both stock a range of local maps and guide books; an old-fashioned antique dealer shop (with yarns galore!); two hairdressers; a traditional barber-shop; a florist; a hardware shop (which also sells sacks of logs & kindling for the fire); one bank (Barclays – with 24hr cashpoint) and a building society.

Southwold has its own Museum and two small art galleries – with regular exhibitions by local artists (including some very well-known artists, such as Maggi Hambling).

Southwold offers loads of great places to eat out such as "The Sole Bay Co", "The Sail loft","'Coasters" and the Adnams' Swan and Crown hotels. For fun you can take a blast on the Rib 'Coastal voyager' along the coastline.

If you take a small ride on the ferry you'll arrive to Walberswick, where there is a more relaxed pastime - crabbing from the harbour in Walberswick. (bucket, line and smoked bacon needed).

Southwold also offers loads of walking and cycling opportunities.

Notable events are the:

• Christmas Swim and the New year fireworks on the beach.
• The Adnams 10k run each year.
• Southwold arts festival in June.
• Latitude Festival in July.
• Ways with words festival in November

We are Tim and Lucy and we live on the stunning Suffolk Heritage Coast with our son Jack and our daughter Emily. We have been successfully letting our cottages: Arwen cottage in Aldeburgh, Thimble cottage in Southwold, Albion House and Stable cottage in Saxmundham and Castle Hill Cottage in Framlingham via our companies Aldeburgh Seaside Cottages, Southwold Seaside Cottages and Seaside Luxury Cottages. Our properties are self-catering and advertise on AirBnb. We are thrilled to have met such interesting people and received such lovely feedback for it. Tim was born and bred in beautiful Suffolk and I was born in Lima-Peru and brought up in Milan-Italy. I speak Spanish, Italian, French, German and English. As my husband’s family is from Suffolk we have strong ties with this beautiful part of the world. Having travelled extensively we have been inspired by the good things we have come across in properties we have stayed in. As you can tell, we are passionate about providing somewhere special that our guests will love, enjoy and return to. We feel incredibly lucky to be able to live in this part of the world and are loving sharing our cottages with some amazing people from the Airbnb community. If we had a motto to live by it would have to be Maya Angelou's: “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour and some style...”
