Retreat to the sanctuary of this beautiful restored cottage at the geographic and cultural heart of Marin County. Set on a seasonal creek, with a sunny deck and lots of privacy. Closest neighbors are the goats and chickens.

The space

Retreat to the sanctuary of the Nicasio Creek Cottage, a beautiful historical getaway at the geographic and cultural heart of Marin County.

With the constant stress of daily living, most of us need regular contact with nature to switch off, unwind and reflect. Just 45 minutes from downtown San Francisco, 20 minutes to Point Reyes National Seashore, 30 minutes to the Sonoma Wine Country and just up the road from the Lucas Film's creative epicenter, Skywalker Ranch, a stay in this newly remodeled cottage - once the deer camp for the local ranch - has you perfectly situated to enjoy all that the area has to offer.

Whether its just a short weekend refresh or a peaceful extended stay amongst the beautiful natural surrounds, you will come away inspired and revitalized! Enjoy the serene country setting by day and dance the night away to live music at the celebrated Rancho Nicasio. Or pick up some delicious locally made cheese at the Nicasio Valley Cheese Company, California's only certified organic farmstead cheesemaker, and enjoy it on the sunny, creek-side deck with a glass of wine. If you are more the active type, this is a paradise for cyclists, hikers, bikers and naturalists of all sorts. Hike the hills around the property or bring your road bikes and enjoy one of the many famed rides that begin at the cottage's private gate.

The cottage has a private automated gate entrance (owners live at the other end of the property), large deck overlooking a seasonal creek and waterfall, full kitchen, small bedroom with queen size bed and cozy living room that opens up onto the deck. The unit is close to Lucas Valley Road so there is traffic noise during the day. It is also close to the chicken coop so you can hear the hens (no rooster!) as well. From the pictures the unit looks bigger than it is thanks to the wide angle lens. For reference, it is about 480 square feet in total, perfect for a couple but not appropriate for groups, people needing to set up a crib (no room!) or friends that need separate beds, etc. Coffee and fresh eggs are stocked in the fridge upon arrival. There is limited wireless internet available.

There are chickens, goats, sheep at certain times of the year, cats, and dogs on the property so for their safety and comfort there are absolutely NO visiting pets permitted. Even the very sweet and well behaved visiting cats and dogs are disruptive to the animals that live here so please don't ask! Sorry, NO exceptions.

There is also an abundance of wildlife that share this property so be aware that you could see and/or encounter deer, fox, bobcat, raccoon, snakes, bats, ticks, yellow jackets and many other types of creatures at various times of the year depending on when you visit.

Guest access

The cottage and its large deck are yours and yours alone during your stay.

Interaction with guests

We live at the other end of the multi-acre property so we are just a phone call, text or email away.

Other things to note

The Nicasio Creek Cottage is conveniently located on Lucas Valley Rd which is the primary route out to West Marin. That means its easy to get to! It also means that the road (especially on beautiful weekend days) gets lots of use by cars, bicyclists and motorcycles so expect road noise during day time hours.

Nice little place in the country. WiFi was great. No TV was nice. Kitchen was well appointed. Had a wonderful visit. Topography in this part of CA is such that almost all homes are close to a road. There was a bit of road noise during the day; get over it! Very quiet at night. One of the few Air B&B’s I might return to in the future.

Cute cottage by a creek in the North Bay. Photos definitely make the cottage look larger than it is, but it was plenty of space for 2. Cars are audible from the cottage, though not disruptive. Say hello to their orange cat if you can find him roaming the property. The farm fresh eggs Holly provides are perfect for breakfast in the morning. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again if I needed an escape from the busy bay area.

Holly's place is a perfect couples getaway. Perfect place for two. The cabin is updated, and has all that you need. The outside deck is quite and relaxing, and the grill is nice for outside cooking. The goats and chickens are an added bonus if you are animal lovers.

What an amazing getaway from the city! The perfect location to all kinds of tasty eateries in Pt. Reyes Station and a idyllic setting for peace and serenity. We enjoyed the beautiful and perfectly-sized home. How often do you get to personally thank the chickens that gave you eggs for your omelette?! The goats, chickens, and scruffy (but lovable) cat made us reluctant to leave the property for landmarks like Tomales Bay, John Muir Woods, and Point Reyes. This is on our favorites list of places to unplug and reconnect!

I am not quite sure how to describe this well-appointed cottage, the serene property it sits on, the creek and wilderness it is adjacent to, the friendly domestic and feral animals that visit, the convenience of being close to Point Reyes National Shoreline, Samuel P. Taylor State Park, Sonoma, and above all, Holly's gracious hosting. All I can say is that this has easily been one of my best trips thanks to what is easily one of the best listings in that neck of the woods! I highly recommend it, and I hope to make it back there again, some day!

It's a little cottage by a creek, next door to two rotund goats, a bald chicken, and a grumpy but kind orange cat constantly muttering to itself. Comfy hammock outside; even comfier couch inside. Nice sunlight inside. Well-stocked kitchen. Holly and Eric were great stay-out-of-your-way hosts. A lovely place, and I had a great time! Be aware that the house is right off of the main road, so you'll see and hear a car go by every few minutes. Other than that, it's pretty quiet and serene. Well, except for the chickens in the morning. You'll hear the chickens in the morning.

Response from Holly:
Glad you had a nice stay, Bret. Thanks for coming! While there already was a section on the cottage description about proximity to the road and traffic noise I added another line about it and also a line about the hens (no Roosters!) so that future guests are aware. Thanks for the input.

Impeccable and incredibly relaxing. Gorgeous setting. Perfect for one person or a couple. Feels more spacious than it is and the patio is big. Well stocked kitchen with spices, olive oil etc.

Our family is thrilled to be able to share our little piece of paradise!  On five acres along Nicasio Creek sits this lovely cottage which was, at one time, the deer hunting cabin for the local cattle ranch.  Now renovated to be bright, airy and relaxing its the ideal place for a little R&R.

Enjoy the view of the beautiful forested creek side setting and keep an eye out for the wildlife that also call this home including deer, quail, foxes, hawks, bobcats and much more.  Or, if dometic animals are more your thing say hi to the Pygmy Goats right out your door and enjoy the freshly layed organic eggs provided to guests by the hens in the Chateu du Poulet.

Offering plenty of privacy while not being too isolated the Cottage is a convenient jumping off point for exploring the North Bay.  We look forward to hosting you!
