The A.C. Carter House is a unique and charming testament to the entrepreneurial spirit of the once wild river city of La Crosse. The personal residence of Civil War veteran, merchant, and patent medicine man Amos Claude Carter and family; it is a delightful study in the detail of whimsy that once was a part of everyday design in Victorian America.

Signe's place is a lovely historic house in a pleasant, quiet residential neighborhood. It was a good and convenient way for us to stay together with our parents while we attended a wedding in town.

Response from Signe:
Sue and her party were great guests. They came for a busy family wedding and we had sent a lot of info to cover area, house, and directions etc. before her stay, so we weren't surprised to not hear from her much during her stay. She sent us a nice message to let us know how much she enjoyed her stay and how comfortable the house was when they left, they also let us know how much they enjoyed the backyard which was nice to hear because we have been working very hard on it after the re-roofing. I am glad they got to see the fantastic giant Cannas in bloom. Everything was left very tidy and she left a big bouquet of roses for us. I would definitely recommend Sue to other hosts as a guest. Just terrific!

From the moment we pulled up in front of the house I was in love with the place. But when we walked thru the front (Website hidden by Airbnb) was perfect. Warm and inviting with music playing softly in the background. It was nice and cool for us. The beds were very comfy. Plent…

Great location. Plenty to do, see, and eat within walking distance or a short drive. Very cool house!

Response from Signe:
It was great having Nate and his group stay with us. He knocked us down a point on cleanliness because of a smell in the dining room. We had went the extra mile for Nate and provided a beautiful antique highchair for their stay, complete with a brand new safety approved child harness. This highchair was just cleaned, restored, and natural oil finished the day before Nate's arrival, I believe the oil finish was what he smelled in the dining room. I wish Nate had mentioned anything to us during or after his stay, I would have asked him to check the smell of the furniture oil. We have current guests that arrived right after Nate left, they report no smell anywhere in the home. We do natural oil finish all our antique furnishings/woodwork and have had past guests confuse that faint smell with smoke. It is a non-smoking house and have the home ozone treated between guests just to make sure if anyone broke the house rules. I am glad that Nate and his guests loved the house and otherwise reported that the house was very clean.
