The space

Bad Ischl Bergblick is an ideal base for exploring the area! It is a large and comfortable, fully-equipped self-contained apartment, with light and airy rooms, often described as a "home from home", and is highly rated by our guests. It has been awarded the highest classification for private accommodation of 4 Edelweiss by the Private Landlords Association of Upper Austria. We personally prepare it for our guests. It is in a traditionally styled building containing only 5 other apartments, in a quiet no-through road, yet within easy walking distance of the town centre, bus and train stations, and thermal baths. It has a good-sized separate bedroom with a large double bed and wardrobe. The lounge has two comfortable armchairs, a sofa which converts to a double bed, and dining area. There is a log-burning stove in the lounge. It has a separate fully-equipped kitchen, with an oven, ceramic hob, microwave, kettle, filter coffee maker, toaster, refrigerator and dishwasher. The large, fully-tiled bathroom has a large washbasin, full-size bath, a separate shower enclosure, and underfloor heating. There is a separate WC. There is also a washing machine, and a drying rack is provided. Cycle and ski storage is available on-site. A private parking space is available at no extra charge.

Everything is provided except food and drink, although we do provide essentials such as filters for the coffee maker and a few condiments for cooking. There are no other extras to pay on site (unless you have requested a child's cot). Our apartment is ideal if you are travelling by public transport, because it is situated only 5 minutes walk from the bus and train station, with connections to Salzburg, Vienna and Linz.

Guest access

The apartment is reached by a secure entrance door to the small apartment house, and has its own private entrance within the house. The apartment has a sheltered private balcony, with access from the bedroom and lounge, giving views over Bad Ischl and the mountains. Outdoor furniture is provided during the summer.

Interaction with guests

We always personally meet and greet our guests. We are always available if needed, whether for ideas on where to go, where to eat etc., but once we've shown you round the apartment, we leave you to enjoy your holiday. We provide walking maps, information on what's on in the area, information about public transport, and brochures on where to visit - our guests love collecting information about places that they have visited and enjoyed!

The neighbourhood

In winter, there is superb skiing at Dachstein West (Upper Austria’s largest ski area), or at Postalm (Europe’s second largest high mountain plateau). Both resorts are suitable for all ages and abilities. Cross-country skiing is also very popular in the area, particularly at Rettenbachalm, on the outskirts of Bad Ischl, and at Gosau, where there are approximately 45km of prepared tracks in a beautiful valley setting particularly suitable for beginners. Ski buses to all of these areas can be found within 5 minutes walk of the apartment, and is free for guests staying 3 nights or more. We can provide more information on request.

Some walking is still possible as there are cleared paths, and the local tourist office can provide further information

In Bad Ischl itself, the thermal spa is open all year, and it is possible to swim outside amid the snow!

And of course there are the advent markets, particularly round Lake Wolfgang where can enjoy a day travelling between them by boat.

This property is ideally situated for taking advantage of the natural beauty of the area. Cyclists of all ages are catered for, from flat cycle paths alongside picturesque rivers, to mountain biking amongst the magnificent scenery (cycle hire is available locally). For those interested in walking, there are many possibilities in the area, from light evening strolls from the apartment, to more taxing walks in the mountains. Once again, we can assist if you would like more information, as we are keen walkers ourselves!

At Lake Wolfgang, there is a whole range of water sports available, including sailing, pedalo hire, wind surfing, or simply swimming. All the lakes in the area are drinking-water quality, and are crystal clear. Lake Wolfgang is just a short car or bus ride away from Bad Ischl. In the summer, spend a day relaxing on a boat visiting the quaint towns of St. Wolfgang, St. Gilgen and Strobl, all with their own characters.

Golfing is available at the Salzkammergut golf course, less than 15 minutes drive from the apartment

For those who are less active, or if you just want to relax a little more, there are plenty of things to do both in the immediate area and further afield. Take a trip up the Schafberg mountain by rack railway, or the Zwölferhorn by cable car and enjoy magnificent views. The latter is particularly beautiful in the winter, with cleared paths and cosy mountain huts to warm up in with a glass of hot mulled wine!

A visit to Hallstatt is a must. From its old buildings dating back hundreds of years, perched on precipitous slopes in seemingly impossible locations, to the Bronze Age burial site, it cannot fail to impress and delight the visitor. Take a boat trip round the Hallstättersee (Lake Hallstatt), amongst the mountains that surround it. Other attractions in the same area include the Ice Caves, Krippenstein (with its almost lunar landscape), and the Five Fingers, a viewing platform with stunning views over Lake Hallstatt and far beyond.

Or go to Salzburg, with it's wonderful old buildings and modern shops, easily reachable by public transport. Further afield, the Austrian cities of Graz and Linz are ideal for day trips, as are Berchtesgaden, the Eagle's Nest, and Königsee in Germany,

Getting around

Our apartment is only 5 minutes walk from the train and bus stations, which are adjacent to each other. The thermal baths are only a few paces further, with the town centre only another two minutes away. Other major attractions of the area, such as Hallstatt, St. Wolfgang, and St. Gilgen, are within easy reach of the apartment by public transport.

Other things to note

All our prices are accommodation only, we do not provide breakfast. If you don't want to prepare your own, there are a number of cafes in Bad Ischl where you can find anything from a simple pastry to a more elaborate cooked breakfast.

We do not charge for infants 2 years old and under. There is a cot and bedding available at a one-off cost of €10 (payable on site) irrespective of length of stay, and there is also a high chair available at no cost. Please let us know when booking if you require the child bed (cot). You are welcome to bring your own, and there is no charge if you wish to do this.

Please note that a minimum stay of 2 nights is applicable. We may extend this to 3 nights or more at peak times (e.g. summer, Christmas, and New Year).

All bookings for Christmas and New Year must include either 25th or 31st December, or both. Other restrictions to arrival and departure dates apply over this period, please ask.

We can often arrange to collect you from Salzburg airport (at extra cost), or alternatively we can pick you up from the bus or train station in Bad Ischl at no charge. Please ask us!

Mike and Jenny were wonderful hosts. In their apartment everything was in order and neatly maintained with attention to detail. The whole booking process was smooth and easy. A special thanks to mike for coordinating our arrival times ,he even got us checked in by 11 though the regular check in time is 4. They know the place like the back of their hands and they suggested the Restaraunt "Attenwenger" in bad ischl which served the best food we ever tasted in Austria. Given a chance I would definitely stay again here and would strongly recommend it to anyone.thanks mike and Jenny once again for making our stay memorable.

We had been visiting Austria for many years, both summer and winter, and in 2007 decided to buy ourselves a holiday home here. We fell in love with Bad Ischl in general, and this apartment in particular, at first sight. Being in such a quiet area, yet near the river and within easy walking distance of the town, meant that it was ideal for us.

Having spent two years visiting the apartment and getting to know the area, we moved to Austria permanently in 2009 from Southern England, and now live in a small village near the Wolfgangsee. We are familiar with the area and what it has to offer, and thus can help you make the most of your holiday here, whether you want advice on outdoor activities or where to eat in the many restaurants locally.
