Waypoint Cottage is a turnkey 1 BD/1 BA vacation home with parking & patio, located 1 block from the beach and a quick walk from the restaurants, bars, and breweries of OB. We've paid attention to the details so you'll feel right at home!! Unbeatable location & charm - $99 to $249/night depending on time of year. Accommodates a maximum of 2 adult guests + 2 children, please respect this 4 guest limit! (Infants still count as guests.)

The space

From the moment you walk through the front gate, you know this place is something special - Waypoint Cottage has been welcoming vacationers to OB for more than 100 years and the vibes of good times and lazy strolls to the beach are strong here. While the inside has been completely gut renovated, the outside still has that simple early 20th century beach look - you half expect to see an old woolen bathing suit drying on the rustic adirondack chairs out front!

While the shops & restaurants may have changed, daily life at Waypoint Cottage is still very similar to how it was years ago. Wake up in the morning to the sound of kids playing (hard for them to sleep late with the excitement of the area.) Walk along the water to Newbreak Cafe for your morning cuppa Joe - or, if you're traveling with canine companions, make the short walk to dog beach for some fun morning frolicking. There's plenty of time to get back and make a homemade breakfast - maybe you've had a chance to swing by the weekly farmers' market already and stocked up on organic granola, local berries, and greek yogurt. Or if cooking isn't your thing, Shades Bistro right on the water, or O'Bistro on Voltaire Street are two great pet-friendly breakfast options. After breakfast is sorted, its time to plan your day. Is it a day to spend at the beach? Or is today the day to get out and see some of San Diego's top tourist attractions (most of which are only a 10-15 minute drive away.) Or maybe today's a day to get out on the water - fishing trips leave from Shelter Island and a trip on a small sailing yacht can be had for $75 - $120 depending on the length and the season. Whatever you choose, don't rush it - its the OB way!

After a day's adventures, its good to unwind on the front patio with a locally brewed beer (maybe picked up from Culture Brewing Co on Newport Ave?) or some Temecula wine. Dinner can wait a while, right? There are plenty of restaurant options within a few blocks - everything from funky sushi/tapas fusion and ramen to Mexican and French cuisine. But the most popular option always seems to be an old fashioned grill out right at home on the charcoal grill. After dinner you can head out on the town to OB's many beach bars and Craft Cocktail Provisioners, or keep it simple - cuddle up at home and watch some TV. The later it gets, the easier it is to hear the waves with the windows open. You'll also hear couples wandering home, giggling from the salt air (and the Seagram's); dogs trotting playfully through their last walk of the evening; and somewhere ... the far away sound of someone playing a Bob Marley record. Ah, OB.

Guest access

This cottage is a vacation rental located in a private, gated 4-unit cottage complex. Our unit is the only one that is in continuous use as a vacation rental - two others are occasionally rented out, and the remaining one is a 2nd home that is rarely used by the owner. You will have an assigned off-street parking space and will also have an exclusive use front patio area with grill, and a private side yard. We have toiletries and can provide basic pantry items if desired (coffee, cream, etc.)

Other things to note

This property is air conditioned with a room air conditioner. The air conditioner is usually in place July through October, but we will of course put it in temporarily in case of an unexpected heat wave! (The average high temperature in the hottest season is 76 degrees, so the AC doesn't get much use!!)

The beach neighborhoods are on the flight path from San Diego airport, so there is some airplane noise during the daytime, but there is a curfew so no flights from 11:30 PM until 6:30 AM, and most guests don't notice the noise after arrival.

We only heard from her hours after we were supposed to check in and had already made other arrangements. Definitely not acceptable.

Although it is in a prime location, I was overall disappointed in my stay at Jennifer's place. Cleanliness was a huge factor in my review. The bedroom and bathroom are huge factors in me feeling comfortable in my stay over night, and these two were big disappointments. Pillow cases, mattress, sheets and toilet all had stains when we got there. The location is beautiful, though. But i'm not confident to recommend this place to any of my close friends or relatives.
