I've been a member of Airbnb for 6 years, and I've had nothing but great experiences as a guest and received nothing but great reviews from my hosts. I hope this message is read as being level-headed and fair, but if the time cannot be taken to read the message entire, please note that I DO NOT RECOMMEND this apartment as an airbnb stay.
When I first checked-in, Biruk told me I could park anywhere in the open lot at his apartment. We met at my car, and he explained that I could also use a reserved spot inside the complex's gated garage as he handed me a parking pass. He never said that I needed the pass in the open lot as well.
We walked together directly from my car to his apartment. Because we were together, he clearly knew that I had not put the pass in my car, yet he said nothing. That means he knew my car was illegally parked the entire time he was showing me around his apartment. It didn't occur to me to ask a clarifying question because I have never had a host who would knowingly let me leave my car parked illegally in a towing lot for even 20 minutes. Biruk is not a long-time host, and it's clear his reliance on verbal directions without clear written guidelines in his listing is a problem. The next day, I went to retrieve my car from the lot (as I needed to pick up my mother from the airport), and it had been towed. The total cost of the towing was $160, and while Biruk offered to waive the cleaning fee, it did not even cover half of the cost. He refused to refund me one of my nights to offset the cost, and because of the general distress and distrust from this host, I left the premise a day early.
This is a novice host, and it showed with his communication and clarity.
