This is a nice place conveniently located for the town centre and train station. Thorsten is very helpful and accommodating, and even offered me supper on one of the evenings that I was there. The room is a good size, with desk space, wardrobe and towels provided. The shower can be a little temperamental, but overall it's a very good place to stay.

Truly lovely stay! Thorsten met me before the stay and made everything easy for me. Even a lift to the station! Such a great start at AirBnB! Clean apartment and peaceful. Definitely recommend for all who come to Basel or surrounding areas as transport links are fab and surrounding area is peaceful and serene. 5 out of 5 from me... Top marks!

Thorsten's place is on the fifth floor of a quiet grey building originally intended to house workers for the nearby KBC Textile factory. In fact, the factory's towering white smokestack is an excellent landmark to help find the place. Other good landmarks are the Hieber food market and Expert Villringer, a biggish consumer electronics shop. If you're lost you can easily get directions to either of those, within five minutes' walk. If you arrive at the Villringer, you'll need to go downstairs (or down the sloping walkway to the Hieber level. From there, go right, follow the street (Marie-Curie Str) around a 90-degree curve (where it becomes Georges-Köhler-Str), past a large Chinese restaurant/beer garden to the small traffic circle at the end (about 600m), and the building is right there. Whether you're walking, biking or driving, the best strategy is to bring a map, as the street only has two clear ways in (neither of them obvious), and only the people in the immediate neighborhood can be relied on to know where it is. If you have baggage, I recommend Uber or a cab from the station. If you arrive during opening hours (and not on a Sunday), the Hieber is a great place to stop to pick up some provisions (Thorsten keeps an entire fridge empty for guest use, but it's not Club Med). Hieber's also offers reasonably priced meals, including sandwiches and pizza, in their food court (I found their breakfast special–a breadboard stocked with cheese, ham, salami and marmalade, as well as two rolls, a croissant, a hard-boiled egg and a big cup of coffee–a satisfying meal for 6.50€. In Riehen (Switzerland), three km to the south, the same meal would cost twice that. Search for Hieber Loerrach to confirm their opening hours. If you arrive on a Saturday, bear in mind that just about everything except a few restaurants and bakeries will be closed Sunday (Hieber's bun/sandwich shop is open 08:00-11:00 Sunday, from 7am to 9pm the rest of the week); so consider getting what you'll need to tide you through. Of course, if you're planning on preparing some meals, Hieber's offers excellent quality at moderate prices, and a great selection of wines, beers and other beverages. I arrived on a Saturday, and brought a bottle of white wine, which was a good ice-breaker. Thorsten's partner Philip was also there. An intelligent and well-spoken photographer and sculptor originally from Arkansas, he now lives in Berlin and visits a few times a month. Both he and Thorsten were polite, friendly, and considerate hosts.
