Located in the heart of old Painswick, which is a beautiful village on the western edge of the Cotswolds near Cheltenham. The cottage is located on one of the prettiest lanes, and enjoys extensive views across the Painswick valley from all its bedrooms and from its steep terraced garden.

The space

Southview is ideally placed for exploring the surrounding countryside or visiting the many beautiful towns and villages of the Cotswolds. The famous Cotswold Way footpath, which runs from Bath to Chipping Campden, runs right through the village, and in addition the valley is riven by an extensive network of footpaths, many of which can be easily accessed from various places along the lane. If walking is too much effort, or to slake your thirst and satisfy your hunger after a ramble, a variety of great pubs and restaurants can be found within 5 minutes walk of the cottage, as can a well stocked convenience shop.

Southview has been lovingly renovated to highlight its traditional character features, namely exposing many Cotswold stone walls and oak beams, using wooden doors, and installing a wood burning stove in the original fireplace. Furthermore two additions to the original cottage greatly enhance the original character - a lovely steep wooden spiral staircase has been installed to give access to the first floor, and another steep staircase from the first floor climbs to the master bedroom in the eaves of the cottage. The interior has been stylishly decorated in a crisp country style that is a fusion of a sleek contemporary pared back look with a more traditional country cottage look.

As a result of not being situated opposite another cottage, Southview has stunning countryside views from all its bedrooms, and also the living room enjoys plenty of daylight (and even distant glimpses of the valley ridge). The views don’t stop there however - when the weather is agreeable then climb the steep steps of the garden up to the top terrace to enjoy the pièce de resistance: un-interrupted and far reaching views over the cottage itself of the Painswick Valley, its slopes resplendent in its livery of lush green fields, and its ridges lined by magnificent ancient mature beech woodlands (nearby Beech woodlands are designated special conservation areas).

The character of the cottage is complemented by its modern facilities, including wireless internet access, an internet-enabled flatscreen TV (for example allowing films to be viewed from a Netflix account), a Blu-Ray DVD player, a wireless music player compatible with modern smart phones, and a well equipped kitchen with a washer/dryer. The cottage sleeps a maximum of four people in two bedrooms, and has one bathroom. Please note that children under the age of 10 are not permitted at Southview. On street parking is freely available.

Southview is an ideal retreat for friends, couples or a family with older children looking for a peaceful getaway.

This place was amazing! A cute cottage, exposed stone work, and a warm fireplace. We loved staying here. It's in a great little village as well, close to grocery stores and hiking trails. Hopefully we'll stay again!

I asked my partner to marry while staying at Daniel and Thea's cottage, it was a truly memorable experience which was made better with the beautiful, warm and comfortable cottage in the middle of a beautiful area. We would highly recommend a stay here and thank Daniel and Thea for their generous hospitality, and the bottle of Champagne was a beautiful touch.

We had a fantastic stay, enjoying all the area had to offer. Daniel and Thea were very accommodating and helpful. The cottage was fantastic, very cosy, especially with the wood burner! Lovely extra touch finding croissants etc for us on arrival. Highly recommend!

The house and the village are perfect for whoever is looking for some proper relax and beautiful country walks. We stayed in 4 and we all truly loved the layout of the house, the space, furniture and amenities. Location is also perfect. It was our first time in Painswick and if back we will definitively seek to stay here again. Daniel has been very helpful and communicated very well with us, whic made everything easier. Very much recommended.

We enjoyed our 3 days here. Everything was as described, very cosy, well equipped and great location for exploring Painswick and the Cotswolds. Pubs, shop, restaurants, coffee shop all within 5 mins walk. Very comfortable beds, would happily stay longer!

Cannot recommend this place enough! We had a wonderful stay at Southview last week. Painswick is a gorgeous place and easy to walk around. The church and grounds are lovely and there are a couple of great cafés. Unfortunately, the closest pub is undergoing some renovation but it just gives an excuse to go back! The property is wonderful. Cosy, warm and the wood burner (with very useful instructions!) is a welcome addition for the end of a day out. Great communication and instructions from Daniel and Théa before we arrived and left in and around the property for the duration of our stay. We will definitely be back ...

We are a statistician and marketing account director living in Cirencester and London (and Southview when it is free). We love all things about the Cotswolds, especially the Cirencester-Painswick-Stroud corner. Southview is our very special hideaway which we hope you find comfort…
