Malia
o Malia is one of the most well developed touristic settlements of Crete, divided in "two" by the central road: the upper part of the settlement preserves the features of a traditional, Cretan village, with narrow paved streets, houses built with the traditional architectural style and picturesque taverns, while the lower contemporary part hosts all the touristic infrastructures. Discover everything at a walking distance from Notos Heights Hotel & Suites.
o Apart from the settlement, you can also visit the Malia archaeological site, where the third biggest and most significant Minoan palace (following Knossos and Faistos) has been excavated; according to the legend there reigned Sarpidonas, brother of Minoas and son of Europa and Zeus. You can combine the sightseeing with a swim at the beautiful, sand beach of Potamos, located right next to the site.
o Last but not least, it is worth exploring the picturesque villages, located southeast of Malia, such as Mohos, Krasi, Avdos and the neighboring and equally touristic Hersonisos.

During your stay

Out of all the gorgeous sites Crete has to offer, there are some you just HAVE to see !

1. KNOSSOS PALACE - ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF HERAKLION – CRETAN BAZAAR
The collection of the Minoan antiquities in the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion is the largest in the world and the museum is considered the main Museum of Minoan civilization. It is classified as one of the largest and most remarkable museums in Greece and one of the most important in Europe.
2. SAMARIA GORGE, our 9th worldwonder and the European counterpart to the Grand Canyon.
3. BALOS – CHANIA - ELAFONISI ISLAND - GRAMVOUSA, discover the paradise island of Elafonisi, the Pirates Island Of Gramvousa, the turquoise waters of Balos and the cosmopolitan city of Chania, on a day tour.
Venture into the foothills of the wild White Mountains, and visit a dream beach in the extreme southwest of Crete.
Swim in crystal clear waters, and enjoy panoramic views.
4. CHRISSI ISLAND, An unforgettable cruise to one of the southern points in Europe, the Golden Island, or, as it is also called, Donkey Island.
Nine miles from Ierapetra, it has a unique cedar forest, pure white sand dunes, golden shallow sand beaches and a sea with unbelievable tropical colours.
5. ONE DAY TOUR IN SANTORINI
While having your holidays in Crete you can come on our one day-cruise and discover beautiful Santorini within α memorable 8-hour stay. This excursion will be a lifetime experience because your leisure is our pleasure!
The most famous island in Cyclades, with more than 4.500 years of cultural history, will capture you with its beauty and stunning Caldera views.
6. AGHIOS NIKOLAOS – ELOUNDA – PLAKA – SPINALONGA
Agios Nikolaos is famous for its picturesque ‘bottomless lake’ and it’s also better known as the “little St. Tropez of Crete” . You will have plenty of time to discover this pretty little town on your own, to stroll around the shops or just relax in one of the popular cafes and watch the world go by. Leaving Agios Nicolaos, and after a short coach trip and a photo stop, we arrive at Elounda, once a fishing village but now, after having been discovered by tourism, a famous resort with the most five star hotels in Greece.
From here you take the boat and cruise along the bay to the island of Spinalonga (sometimes called the island of Tears). The guided tour on the island will both fascinate and haunt you as you learn the tragic history of this island which was once a Venetian fortress and was then the isolated home of many lepers up to 1957 when it was cleared by the Health Authorities, leaving the place uninhabited. The Venetians constructed a very impressive fortress with forty cannons which has been guarding the strategic bay of Mirabello since the 15th century.

Spinalonga is a small island located at the entrance of Elounda lagoon and north of the Gulf of Mirabello.
The history of the island still inspires awe. It has been a Venetian fortress, a castle colony, a rebel refuge, a place of exile for lepers, a communication link with Cairo during the Second World War. The island has been well fortified by the Venetians during their presence in Crete. From structural and architectural point of view and from an aesthetic view of the whole landscape, the island still retains an unsurpassed beauty.
The best and most convenient way to visit each destination above like :Elafonisi Island, Chania City, Balos blue lagoon ,Gramvousa Pirate Island, Samaria Gorge etc is to buy a group tour!
Especially, if your hotel is located in the eastern parts of Crete (Malia, Heraklion, Agios Nikolaos).
In this case you won’t drive a car during 3 and more hours, a comfortable bus will take you straight to your destination !
