Views views views! Little Talisker is a luxurious cottage in Stanley. In an amazing location, backing onto the Nut and looking out over the beach. You will love the chic coastal interior, artwork, and stunning fit out. The stone and rusty steel courtyard is a fabulous private space to BBQ and entertain with towering Nut views above you.

Little Talisker built in 1892, is in the heart of Stanley and is a short stroll to the Nut, cafes, award winning restaurants, beaches and galleries.

The space
We named the cottage after Talisker House which was built in the 1700s on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. My husband spent much of his childhood playing in Talisker House and exploring Talisker Bay. Both houses are steeped in history and situated on spectacular small seaside bays with a towering volcanic rock behind.

About the cottage...
Litttle Talisker is our pride and joy. It is our family escape, in a charming seaside village. The decor is stunning and based around a relaxed “Hamptons” coastal style. Decorating and collecting art is a bit of a passion and whilst the cottage is charming on the inside, it is the sweeping beach views and majestic Nut views which make it truly special.

We’ve created a beach house for relaxed family holidays. You can read, play games, watch movies from the DVD library and enjoy the large selection of quality magazines and coffee table books. There is also free wifi for those who want to stay plugged into the outside world.

The kitchen, dining and lounge are open plan with breathtaking bay views to the front and the towering Nut views behind. One bedroom is downstairs and the other two are dormer bedrooms which are accessed via modern wooden stairs. The beds are all queen sized and linen, pillows, blankets and throws are high quality to help guarantee a good nights sleep.

The large stainless steel kitchen is a pleasure to cook in, with gas stove and cooktop, dishwasher, a marble topped kitchen island and ample cook books. Just stock up on groceries from the local providore and supermarket so that you can self cater and enjoy. There is a coffee plunger, coffee perculator and Nespresso pod machine for your enjoyment. There is air conditioning and central heating to keep you cool in summer and warm in winter.

The stone walled BBQ courtyard has majestic views of the Nut towering above and is perfect for outdoor entertaining. The outdoor shower is fabulous for rinsing off after the beach. My husband is a landscaper and stonemason, and designed and built the courtyard walls with his brother. The volcanic stone was sourced from local farms around Stanley, and the farmers were paid with a bottle of Talisker whisky!

Little Talisker is child friendly for families to enjoy. There is a retractable child gate at the bottom of the stairs, portacot, highchair and the courtyard is fenced. You can throw open the french doors in the dining room and relax while your children play in the fenced courtyard. The bathroom is stunning with black limestone floors, a shower rose bigger than your head and Nut views. The laundry facilities make the self contained cottage a breeze to enjoy.

The artwork
A large water colour painting of Talisker House on the Isle of Skye takes pride of place above the mantelpiece in the kitchen. The cottage is full of original artworks which have been chosen to create a relaxed coastal vibe and make each space feel unique. There are artworks by talented local artists and a variety of paintings, stunning blue & white China and one of a kind decorative mirrors throughout the cottage.

The large rusty steel screen in the courtyard with cut out vine leaves was commissioned for the space and makes an ideal privacy screen. The small metal birds in the garden were sourced from a local artisan at the recent Highfield Garden Spectacular. Even the kitchen island is a one-off piece which started life many years ago as the desk of the chief financial controller of Boags Brewery in Launceston.

Full of History...
Little Talisker cottage was built in 1892 and originally housed the family who ran the large shop which used to be next door. Many large local families have resided in the cottage over the last century from fisherman to lighthouse keepers and paperhangers & decorators. One family had eight children, before the upstairs bedrooms were added, and we can only imagine where they all slept! We’ve exposed the convict brick fireplace, original Baltic floorboards and unearthed the top of an old well high up in the garden (now filled in).

The surrounds
It is situated on a one way heritage street lined with similar cottages which nestle into the base of the towering Nut, and have sweeping views of the beach below. Playgrounds, beaches, Nut, chairlift, galleries , award winning cafes and restaurants are located at either end of the street and you can walk to all amenities. Stanley is also a fabulous base to explore the beauty of the North west coast and an easy day trip to many attractions.

We encourage you to take some time out from your busy lives and immerse yourself in life at Little Talisker.
