My aim is to help you ‘cultivate an experience’ of Joburg by connecting you with some of the right drivers, tour guides, restaurants, experiences etc. to support your planning and make the most of your time in town, with my apartment as your home base.
With windows on three sides, this light and airy apartment is spread over the 9th, 10th and 11th floor of the heritage (listed), former Barclays Bank HQ, building on the oldest street in Johannesburg.
It's less than 10 minutes walk to the closest Citysightseeing open-top hop-on-hop-off tour bus stop, about 25 minutes drive from Johannesburg airport and 10 minutes away from the Gautrain station, giving direct access to Rosebank, Sandton, Pretoria and the airport.
It is also less than 10min Uber ride to Maboneng, Braamfontein, Joziburg lane and 1Fox street, making it perfectly located to experience the city's urban revival and access the coolest parts of Jo'burg, whilst not having to put up with the noise that goes with actually staying in these areas.
The layout of the apartment was designed so that the main living spaces would all benefited from outdoor space and the amazing city views.
On the entrance floor of the apartment there is a Master bedroom suite which incorporates a large en-suite bathroom (with a walk in shower) extra length king sized bed; a second bedroom which has two single beds, a cupboard and a desk; and another bathroom.
The middle floor of the apartment has an open plan living area, dining area (with a six-seater dining table) and gourmet kitchen with appliances. All of which creates an amazing homely room to hang out in.
There is also a small balcony that gives some of the best views of the communal pool and Johannesburg's historic old market square, available.
An staircase leads up from the living area, to the top floor, with access to the sofa bed room, which has a sofa bed and en-suite WC. There is also the private roof top which has an outdoor shower and a bbq/braai.
Guest will have exclusive access to the entire apartment plus wifi and the roof top. You will also have access to the communal (shared between the penthouses) roof top swimming pool.
Interaction with guests
I travel a lot, so unlikely to be in town during your stay, however my co-host, Dylne, lives in the building and he will be available to assist with keys handover etc.
Other things to note
It is one of the oldest buildings in town, there are often film shoots happening either in the building, or on the surrounding streets, at the weekend (the area looks like NY or London, but is cheaper and has better light). They're sometimes a bit of a pain as you may have to wait for a break in shooting, to get past.
There is quite a distance between the solar hot water tank, on the roof, and the bathrooms, so you need to run the taps for a couple of minutes to get the hot water.
Please remember that I live in the building and I value my relationship with my neighbours, so...
• Please be courteous and avoiding noise that can be heard from outside the apartment after 10pm.
• No outside visitors or overnight guests without previous agreement from myself.
• Do not engage in illegal activities anywhere on the property.
• If you break or damage something, please let me know so we can arrange for its replacement or repair.
• Return all keys
For security, I will replace the front door lock if any keys are not returned. Guests will be charged R1000 to cover the cost.
Free Wifi available is up to 500MB per day. Usage beyond that may require a top up on the system, at a cost of R100/GB.
If you need a power adaptor, please ask Dylne to lend you one. You'll need to return it with the keys. Replacement of any that are not returned will cost R150.
A number of people have asked about using the apartment for film or television shoots. I have a separate location agreement in place, so this is not an option for rental booked via Airbnb.
