Your stay will be in a tastefully renovated historic 1910 villa located in the buzzing suburb of Kingsland in Auckland. You couldn't be better placed for getting around and having some fun. You'll be walking distance (only 5 min) to cool boutiques, popular restaurants, chic bars, and public transport (train and buses). For the rugby and cricket fans we're only 400 metres to Eden Park.
We renovated our three bedroom villa in the classic style, honouring the history of the house while integrating modern touches (insulation, central heating) seamlessly. Our garden is a peaceful oasis in an otherwise exciting area and you're welcome to relax on the porch and watch the bird-life while you sip a locally roasted coffee under the enormous grapefruit tree.
Your room is warmed by touches of wood enhanced by the light sage green walls. The ceilings are high and there's a beautiful set of three bay windows looking out into the front garden. The bed is queen size with a firm mattress and there's an armoire and dresser for your belongings. The fire place creates a warm ambiance and in fact there's really nothing better than reading in bed by the light of the fire.
We'll share the rest of our house with you. The lounge is comfortable and a great place to read. If you're a piano player you'll be pleased to know that our piano is at your disposal. The bathroom is finished in an Asian style and includes both a shower and bathtub. The kitchen is a contemporary design with concrete bench tops and a large selection of kitchen tools should you feel like cooking up a storm. The back yard is spacious with little nooks and crannies to discover plus we have a pear-shaped cat who loves nothing better than basking in the sun while receiving a belly rub.
We don't have a TV but we do have wireless Internet so all is not lost. Our house is also centrally heated in winter...a rarity in New Zealand!
Interaction with guests
A little bit about us...
We look forward to meeting new people to hear their stories as well as share some of our own. Seb is in tourism and as a native Parisian he speaks perfect French and fluent English. If you're looking for things to do in NZ he's your man. Karen, who is a Kiwi who grew up in America, studies visual arts, is a foodie. She can speak French but her French cooking is more impressive.
We consider ourselves to be green and we aim to recycle, compost, use eco-friendly products whenever possible and consciously consider our impact on the environment. We grow some veggies and fruits and eat a healthy diet. Our cat is too lazy to hunt so she's doing her part to protect the (URL HIDDEN) least that's what she wants us to think. :)
Other things to note
Please note that we are on a busy street so you may hear road noise from the bedroom. One final thing we'd like to mention is that our cat is terrified of children so for this reason we do not accept reservations with children.
No smoking inside but you can smoke in the garden.
Please don't invite people we don't know into the house without asking us first and please respect the fact that we have a limit on our broadband usage.
