Casa Que Pasa is the perfect home to relax and enjoy the beach lifestyle! The front terrace is very spacious and has a variety of chairs and tables for lounging and enjoying the beach. The private pool is oceanfront and has breathtaking ocean views. The house is family friendly, on a single level, and equipped with everything you need to make this a vacation of a lifetime.

The space
Casa Que Pasa is delightful and is ideal for families or small groups of adults. The house is equipped with everything you need. The kitchen has a fridge, stove, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, blender, dishes, utensils and pots/pans. There are ceiling fans and air conditioners in every room to ensure your comfort.

The main house features three large bedrooms (king bed in the oceanfront master bedroom, a queen bed in the second oceanfront bedroom and twin beds plus a sofa bed in the third bedroom) and two bathrooms. We also have an air-conditioned casita (note: this is a separate building) with another bedroom (queen bed) and bathroom. It is included in the price for larger groups of six or more, or for a small fee.

The property can comfortably sleep 8 people. There is a flat screen TV, with a DVD player, and a Classic Wii console. There is fast wifi throughout the house and terrace. The terrace has two seating areas as well as a dining table for eight. We also have a washer/dryer, hammocks and beach towels. The house is very secure and you can park inside of the gate.

The Casita is free for groups of six or more or available for $25 per night for smaller groups. Some longer term rentals may wish to book the Casita for a few days to house visiting family and friends. The casita will never be rented to another group when you are there.

Other things to note
Please note that most of the year, our little town is very quiet, but during Mexican holidays, Semana Santa, and summer weekends, our town comes alive with Mexican festivities, fireworks, and families on the beach. At times, you may experience loud music, slow traffic in town, and power outages! It is all part of the experience of being in "real" Mexico.

Speaking of power outages, Mexico's electrical grid is great in the big cities, but the further away you get, the more frequent the problems. Chelem and Chuburna are the end of the line and it is likely that you will experience at least one power outage during your stay. We have candles and flashlights ready for you.

Every day, the beach will change. On some mornings, especially in December, the beach will change entirely. One morning we woke up to a beach that was missing two feet of sand! Within two days, it was back to normal. This is a natural process. The appearance and makeup of the beach (sand versus shells) depend on the tides, the winds, and the height of the waves. Every high tide will deposit some seagrass. This is a natural part of the beach and is actually illegal to remove. The white sand beaches of Cancun are very different from the ever changing landscape of untamed beaches on the Flamingo Coast.

Neighbourhood highlights

There are so many things about this area that make it special. It’s central to everything – the culture, art, food and fun in Merida, the cenotes and ruins, and restaurants in Progreso. Chelem is a gem too. It’s a charming little fishing village and the fresh fish and seafood are bountiful and delicious. The area is easily accessible from the Merida airport (40 minute drive) and Cancun (4 hour drive with a stop for tacos). Grocery shopping and medical facilities are close by. The local Mexican people are amazing and friendly, and there is also a thriving and friendly expat community. We are surrounded by plenty of real Mexican culture and great amenities -- and best of all, it’s very safe.

We just purchased our home in Mexico and we are so excited to share it with you and your family! We are both teachers and this will be our dream retirement home... in a few years. Until then, we love to visit. When we are in Chelem, we explore nearby ruins like Uxmal and Kabah, enjoy pescado frito in a roadside restaurant, take a dip in a cenote, and enjoy the art and culture of Merida with our kids. Chelem is safe, and close to everything -- you will never be bored. We hope you love it as much as we do!!
