This hotel was great! the people were nice and made sure that we had what we needed. The hotel is in a kinda sketchy neighborhood so if you are easily spooked beware. I was fine and didn't feel threatened. The hotel was nice enough to hold our luggage for us until we needed to leave to catch our plane. Great experience!
Had a good stay. The room was clean, and exactly as pictured. Great for one night. When we arrived in the afternoon, the neighborhood looked sketchy, and I was nervous to go back late at night. I was pleasantly surprised when we got back to the hotel around 1am, the street was empty and quiet. If it weren't for the marathon running by in early morning, I would've had a great night sleep!
Room looks exactly as pictured and fit the bill for being very affordable and convenient. Yes there are lots of homeless people around, it's in the Tenderloin but for the price and location near downtown it didn't bother me at all. I was concerned about bed bugs based on a review on trip advisor, but I checked the mattress and room thoroughly and found none. When I checked out in the morning the proprietor was very friendly and made sure I was happy with my stay. I was!
I in did up not even staying here during my vacation in San Francisco. However they always answered the phone as needed. I cannot give an accurate review because I did not spend a single minute here.
hotel was just as expected. not a bad price, though there was an extra $9.10 fee (for i have no idea what) when i got there. management was lovely. complementary breakfast.
Everything is good with this place except for 2 things:
1. there are a lot of crazy bad smelling and always swearing homeless people in the neighborhood and on the street right when you step out of the hotel
2. it is very noisy during the night (mostly because of 1) - hard to sleep well and get rest. Also the radiator in my room was super noisy during nights for some reason.
Other than that, the hotel is rather clean (despite being old), the staff is helping, and they have good wifi and breakfasts. And yes, they are in a walking distance from Union Square.
Great for 1-2 day stays.
Stayed at the Regency Inn for 4 nights and was super pleased. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. Location is very convenient, room was cleaned thoroughly everyday, breakfast was available in the morning and there was always someone at the front desk at night. More than one would expect for under $60 per night. Highly recommended.
The hotel in general was OK for that price category. However, the staff was quite unfriendly and not really willing to turn on the heater, although we asked for it several times. They seemed to be indifferent towards their guests.
The room is not great. There was some lingering smell of urine that seemed to dissipate when we opened the window, or it just could be that we got used to it. We got a room facing the street, so there were noises (people's, car's) coming up from the street throughout the night. Worse, it seemed like the occupants next to us had a pretty wild party which woke us up at around 3 am. They played very loud music and talked in drunken voices. It went on for over an hour and I was surprised the staff didn't interfere. And just as many other reviewers said, it was very scary walking in the area outside the inn, since there were so many homeless people.
I was interested in a hotel within walking distance to my conference at the concourse in SoMa and the Regency fit the bill. The room had its quirks but was very clean. I was initially disconcerted by the transient population around the hotel but after a homeless man said "god bless you" to me for giving him a candy bar, I felt at ease. The street outside is noisy so you may want earplugs if you are a light sleeper. The family that live in and manages the hotel is what makes staying there a much better experience than other hotels in the same price range.
