Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Scotland, United Kingdom

A short walk will take you to the shore where there are tidal lagoons, rocky and sandy beaches and coastal wildlife. We have otters, seals, and occasionally whales and dolphins in our seas. There are buzzards and ravens nesting nearby and Golden and Sea Eagles are often to be seen in the skies above us. At the other end of the croft you will find the village loch with it’s own islands and wildlife; there are waterfowl and herons to watch and in the Autumn the swans arrive.
Tolsta Chaolais is is often called the prettiest village in Lewis and there are many delightful routes to explore on foot. The landscape is characterised by beautiful outcrops of rock amid the wild flowers and rushing streams.
The Doune Braes Hotel is a mile and a half away by village road and moorland track and serves food all year.
We are less than 5 miles from the Calanais Standing Stones, the Broch at Dun Carloway and the Garenin Blackhouse village. Half an hour’s drive from Stornoway and an hour from the hills of Harris, the magnificent beaches of Uig, and the Butt of Lewis. If you give us some notice we can usually arrange a boat mooring for you

We are Crofters. We sell home reared mutton and Highland beef. We keep sheep, cattle , horses, and chickens. The team includes three working collies. We are keen on home produced food. We love living here.
During your stay
We are always happy to discuss the geography, geology and history of the Island. Just come through and find us. We have plenty of maps for you to borrow. (And a fine selection of DVDs).
