Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
If you’re looking for a secluded break with nothing but the sound of the river at night to keep you company then this little hut is perfect.

Perched on the edge of the river, this charming cabin is the perfect year-round retreat. Fully insulated and with a log stove, hot shower and wooden sauna the cabin is the perfect bolthole no matter what the weather outside is doing.

Everything you need for a secluded escape from the world. Just relax, unwind, sit by the fire, walk in the hills, and be.

The space
You could not get closer to a river without swimming. This cabin sits on the very edge of the Gwydol river and is surrounded by wild Welsh Countryside and wetland marches.

Inside the cabin, the greatest thought has been given to every detail, with beautifully handmade wooden furniture and bespoke, quirky furnishings. If you like wood, water, fires, and peace and quiet then you will love this space. Located on our four acre property far from any other houses, the Riverside Cabin has its own private outdoor spaces and all the wares inside to feel wonderfully self-sufficient.

The cabin is light, spacious, and uniquely hand crafted by us in our own natural style. There is a comfy king size bed and slick fold-out double sofa bed, ideal for families with children, or friends happy to share the one sleeping space.

A cosy wood burning stove provides great warmth in the winter months, and there is gas-powered hot water on tap, both in the kitchen and in the shower.
The toilet and hot shower are attached to the side of the cabin.

Surrounding hills and trees form the perfect backdrop to this unique riverside retreat.

Guest access
You have access to over 3 acres of land to roam. This includes the orchard, forest garden, river and sauna.

Other things to note
The cabin is all off-grid and is powered by the sun through photovoltaic panels. These amazingly efficient solar panels provide constant lighting even in the darkest winter months. We also have 240v power supply for charging phones and laptops but this is not powerful enough for appliances such as hairdryers.

There is no Wifi but there is mobile signal, depending on your provider. (We are on EE and get a great signal.)

We provide the following:

Fresh running mains Welsh water (no need to bring bottled water)
Clean bedding
A range of teas and coffee
Cooking oil, salt and pepper
Toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner and body wash
Cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery
Gas cooking hob
A cool box for keeping food cold with ice pack available

A note on towels: we ask guests to please bring their own towels. Or we can supply on request for £5/person.

A note on firewood:
Firewood for the wood burner inside the cabin is included at no extra charge.
Firewood for the bonfire / BBQ and sauna is charged on an honesty basis. It's such a joy to sit outside around a fire of an evening, or take long hot saunas, that we've found the woodpile can very quickly disappear!
So we ask for £5 per basket of wood used outside the cabin.

Dogs
We welcome dogs large and small and it's a wonderful space for dogs to run around in.
Please be aware that we keep chickens, and there is also livestock on the other side of the fence to our land. There are often horses over the river and in spring there are lambs in the fields adjacent. There is fencing all around our property, but if you have a very determined dog, it is important to be aware that there are other animals close by, and the chickens roam around our fields during the day.

Neighbourhood highlights

If you want a holiday where you can escape life's hustle and bustle then Mid-Wales is just the place.

We are situated away from it all in the heart of the picturesque Welsh countryside.

Thirty minutes from the foot of Cadair Idris, the beach, or the Centre for Alternative Technology, Abercegir is perfectly situated to take in all the attractions that mid-Wales has to offer.

If you are into mountain biking then there are a number of stunning local rides for all abilities. We are 45 minutes from Coed-y-Brenin and Nant-yr-Arian, or just 20mins from the (in)famout Dyfi Bike Park. The Climach-X trail and Mach cross-country loop are even closer. We are keen mountain bikers so can give you some nice local tips.

The Cabin is right next to the Glyndwr’s Way National Trail, which is a 135km meandering trail through the heart of Wales, so you can walk straight out of the cabin and explore the area for miles.

Alternatively, you can sit on the deck spotting otters and herons while sipping a G&T or relax in the hammock over the river and enjoy the sound of the river flowing under you.

We have one other Shepherd's Hut on our property, which you can see on your walk down the field to your hut. The two huts are very separate, with separate entrances through the hedge and no shared land or facilities.

The Welsh weather is famous for being unpredictable (wet!) so we do recommend bringing good waterproofs and suitable footwear. The walk from the hedge to the hut is around 100m down a grass path.
