This is a glorious place for tranquility with access to many different walks taking you gently in the valley or climbing to the ancient hill forts. Within easy reach of famous Border castles and the dramatic and beautiful coastline.A day on Holy Island is very special and a visit to The Duchess of Northumberland's garden is high on the list of priorities. we are well into summer now although it doesn't feel warm enough!

The space

This North Northumberland B&B has inspired views of the surrounding Cheviot Hills and is in one of the most beautiful settings in Northumberland. It is a perfect place for peace and relaxation. There are many paths straight out of the door for walkers and the valley is renowned for its conservation and wildlife. The colours are wonderful and the garden is producing some excellent vegetables and fruit. We have only one cygnet this year and three barn owls on the hill opposite and the sea trout have been running up the river much better than last year although it is certainly bracing if you take a dip yourself!

Martin and Eildon have lived here for 29 years and they have considerable knowledge of the surrounding hills and the local area.It is also within easy distance of many famous Border castles and the glorious beaches of Northumberland.

Eildon, who is an excellent cook, can produce dinner for you by arrangement with local produce served in front of a log fire on winter evenings. Vegetarian food has become one of her specialties with many vegetables out of their productive garden. Also a large choice of game is available. I normally charge £25 for courses or £18 for 2 courses.

The bedrooms have lots of room with very comfortable beds and lovely cotton sheets and large towels. The sitting room is cosy with an open fire and dining table where you can eat supper if you wish. I normally charge £25 for 3 courses or £18 for 2 courses. if there is something you particularly like to eat I will try to cook it! There is now a wifi connection which has now been brought up to a higher standard.

Guest access

Walking and driving into the beautiful College Valley which has limited access for other vehicles. However we can provide guests to enable them to drive further into the valley

The sitting room is shared with other guests

Peaceful and beautiful. Eildon and Martin and the entourage (dogs) were lovely hosts and the breakfast is to die for. Small touches like fresh flowers and wine glasses supplied without request made it a great pleasure.

Eildon is a gracious host. Her home is grand and in a beautiful location that feels remote but is reasonably reachable by car. There are also a number of good walking paths nearby. The house is beautifully furnished. Guests have access to their own small lounge, with a fire, TV and comfy armchairs. The wifi is workable. The room we stayed in was large and sumptuously furnished. The two twin beds had been pushed together as Eildon had informed me would be the case. I was also offered a room with a real double but that room doesn't have an ensuite (but still a private bathroom). The twin beds are slightly different heights, so it's noticeable but the beds themselves are very comfy. The ensuite is not fully enclosed to ceiling height, but it's close, maybe a foot or two off. I wouldn't recommend this room if you're on your first weekend away with your new boyfriend or girlfriend, rather get the other one, but do still come stay! The garden is beautiful and views stunning. We very much enjoyed our stay. Thank you for sharing your home, Eildon!

A warm welcome to a beautiful spot- superbly comfortable bed and a lovely breakfast - and Eildon was so kind and drove me to Wooler as I had a long hilly cycling day ahead of me. Many thanks for your kindness

Tucked away in the remote back lanes is this beautiful old house, peaceful and green, beautiful views and a lovely garden.I was welcomed with an amazing meal, fresh veggies from the garden and some well prepared and tasty dishes, leeks with gruyere, chicken fillets,a fantastic pudding and a couple of hours sitting reading in front of a blazing fire.peaceful sleep in a very comfortable bedroom (super shower) followed by a delicious breakfast,a lot of choice too. This was a real treat for me as it is a little more than i would usually pay but very much worth every penny,i must come back with the Wife next time.

I would absolutely urge you to book a stay here! Eildon was very welcoming and helpful- but also allowed us the space and quiet we'd hoped for. We found the place easily, thanks to (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps, and enjoyed beautiful scenery on the way. Eildon greeted us with tea and homemade cake. Our room was very comfortable, with a partitioned bathroom and a large comfy bed (two singles pushed together as stated in other reviews, which suited us fine). We had a quick trip out to Wooler, and then back for supper cooked by Eildon. She lit the wood fire while we were out and we enjoyed a beautifully cooked three course meal in her cosy lounge- really a very special experience. Before breakfast we had an hour's walk around the valley - stunning scenery and a lovely walk. We only had a night here but would really have liked to stay for longer and been able to go for a proper hike. Eildon was a brilliant host and the location was great, the house was great and it was all just as we'd hoped. perfect if you're looking for a peaceful getaway.
