The photos don't really do justice to the house. There are high exposed beam ceilings throughout, the living room is a wall of windows, and the deck is larger and more inviting than we expected. The deck also gets the morning sun, wonderful for leisurely breakfasts extending to lunchtime! The kitchen, as others have also commented, was very well stocked -- not once did we need something we couldn't find. The house is nestled in a rural location, far off the street down a long driveway and very private, but Southwest Harbor is only 10 minutes away. If you haven't tried focusing on the "Quiet Side" of the island before, like us, you may be amazed at the wonderful trails, scenic cycling, nice restaurants and slower pace it offers. And the Picea house is a great home base from which to explore it.

Excellent accommodation for when in Acadia. Quiet and away from the noise of the bigger towns around. The cottage was well located and equipped. The host was close enough for any help if needed, yet away enough to keep us feeling in quiet isolation which we were looking for to rest after day of exploring the park. Highly recommended

Susan was a gracious host and her cottage was perfect for our family of 5. The cottage was very nice and had everything we could have wanted. The location was great and I would highly recommend it for an Acadia vacation. Relatively quiet area, but town of Southwest Harbor a few minutes away with some good restaurants. On our list for somewhere we would hope to return to sometime.

The cottage, named Picea (a reference to the evergreen trees), was as close to my expectations as possible. On our last full day we finally met Susan and David at their house up the steep driveway from Picea. Susan was available by phone our entire stay. I especially appreciated the airbnb flexibility of a mid-week stay instead of the traditional constraint of Saturday to Saturday. I find avoiding traditional rental brokers to be a plus. The cottage is available on other online services. The exterior view of the cottage featured in the listing shows the double basement doors below the deck. The living space is on one level a couple steps down from the parking area. However, the laundry is in the basement, which is challenging to reach in the rain. The views are partial but very pleasant. Having some trees is helpful at low tide, when this section becomes a mud flat. We did not smell anything during low tide. The location is a bit remote. The park loop road is about a 30 minute drive, mainly to clear Somes Sound. However, the amazing and very easy Ship Harbor trail is very close, which allowed us to visit at two different tide levels. The remoteness also meant peace and quiet. The cottage has lots of light and faces mostly East, avoiding late-day blinding sun. Most of the cottage is old but in decent to good shape. The kitchen is small but usable with a dishwasher that threatens to let the bottom rack roll to the floor yet manages to hold the dishes every time. The master bedroom is apparently newer with a relatively modern bath that lacks a second sink and shower door but includes a decent ventilator and ceiling heater. The second bath has a startling blue laminate vanity. It was delightfully cool for our late-June visit with highs in the 70's and lows in the 50's. The baseboard heat and new boiler in the basement worked perfectly. We noticed lots of fans for the occasional summer hot spells. The master king bed and guest queen bed were very comfortable for us and our guests. We did not use the twin beds. Supplies were exceptionally generous, including lots of towels, paper products, foil, plastic wrap, many choices of plastic bags and lots of reusable plastic containers. Most of our stay had good-quality toilet paper but at the end all we had was a very low-quality single-ply product that required using nearly 10x the normal number of sheets.
