The space
This double-mattress tent for two, perched on sand under a shady canopy on the edge of the beach, is amongst a small number of other tents with superb views of the tropical ideal. The idyllic island isolated from the crowds is a place for people wanting peace and quiet, to escape and relax. We do not have full moon parties or loud music playing, but we can listen to birds and stargaze without light pollution. You can amble to the next island, swim to others, or hire one of our small boats to paddle a little further, and often spot sea eagles or turtles however you choose to get around.

Capsalay is lined with sandy beaches, a few rocky areas and mangroves. We have the island's largest hill on the property; it's in the middle of the jungle, but it does offer views around the bay. We have a good variety of wild plants, some we harvest for food, and in season there are lots of wild flowers. We also cultivate food (salads, mango, cacao, coffee, coconut) and decorative plants (gingers, cannas, palms).

I have had a career mostly in IT followed by motherhood. This is the next challenge - chef. I retrained as patissier. Combined with an interest in local and indigenous ingredients I hope to create interesting and delicious dishes. This resort that I have built is a paean to conserving our natural environment. My husband and I have been protectors of the reef for over 20 years especially from destructive fishing. The locals have not named it Fantastic Reef for nothing. I have engineered and built water storage units to collect rainwater which is our source of water. A water management practice is put in place. Cleaning beaches of thousands of plastic mineral/softdrink bottles, we have built structures reusing the bottles as building materials. There is grey water management in place. Plans are afoot for transitioning our energy requirements toward solar and less reliance on fossil fuels. Our philosophy extends to a belief in controlled tourism. Unfettered numbers meant a strain on all our resources. By controlling numbers we could also provide a level of exclusivity and security. I believe in memorable experiences. That in our campsite I hope you will remember how beautiful the place is, dined unforgettably and lived a different life.

During your stay

Staff will always be available. Owner lives on site. Globe and Smart Mobile 3G masts in the area but sometimes weather or generator problems close them for a few hours.

Meals are provided, please let us know of any special needs. No softdrinks or bottled water sold. Drinking water is free. Please bring your refillable drinks bottle with you.

There are no shops or restaurants on the island so please plan ahead - sun block, anti-histamine, toothpaste... Usually mosquitos are only a minor issue, but do bring some Off! or similar repellant. The tent has built-in insect screens.

ps. Please wear STURDY flip-flops as on arrival you will most likely be walking on the reef rock to get to the beach.
