We love our converted cargo ship. The original captains area is your private and relaxed apartment to retreat after an exiting day in Amsterdam. It is
a fully equipped loft accommodated with central heating, luxury bathroom, fire place, modern kitchen, delightful bedroom and a superb view from the wheelhouse. Use the free bikes or nearby bus to get to the city centre in 10 minutes. The area we live in is being developed during workdays. The evenings and weekends are quite and relaxed.

The space

The entire loft is available for you. You will have your own entrance, bathroom, kitchen and roof terrace.
From your private roof terrace and the wheelhouse you will have a spectacular view over the old wood-harbour with old warehouses at the horizon. It will only take a 10 minute bike or bus ride to buzzing heart of Amsterdam. In summertime don't forget to bring your swimming gear. If the weather is good you might want to take a dip! The wheelhouse is a excellent place to relax, drink a glass of wine and enjoy the view that never bores.

The area we live in is being developed (building beautiful apartments). The building activities take place from Monday to Friday from 7 AM till 17 PM. The trouble vary. One week there is very little noise, the other week there could be more noise. The evenings and weekends are quite and relaxed.

We had an excellent trip, Femke was a great host.

Femke and her husband were so welcoming and there boat is amazing. We throughly enjoyed our stay and it was an adding bonus that you can jump off the boat and go swimming. You get to have the best of both worlds with central Amsterdam only a 10/15min bus ride away and the peacefulness of the water back at the boat. Femke's commutation was excellent through out the whole process and we couldn't recommend staying with them enough. Best weekend ever

I stayed in the Viator with two friends, and found it to be the ideal number of guests. It was comfortable, with one large bed and a fold out couch. The boat is extremely comfortable and decently spacious, offering the main living area plus bedroom, bathroom, captains cabin and outdoor area. The decoration was very charming, and the boat came with a number of amenities including multiple and different types of phone chargers, lighters, extra bedding etc. The boat is not terribly close to the center but with the use of the 3 free bikes it is a quick and easy 5 minute ride to Central Station. We would strongly recommend anyone to stay here.

A scenic spot, and a great place to spend some down-time from the hustle & bustle of the town.

We had an amazing stay at Femke’s place. The interior is even nicer than the pictures show. Everything feels very homey, and the space is well equipped with everything you would need. We opened the fridge on our arrival and were delighted to see two cold beers in the fridge waiting for us after our long journey! There is an adorable little tea corner and a Nespresso machine for coffees in the morning. The bathroom is very clean and modern and we couldn’t believe how nice the shower was for being on a boat. My favorite touch was the fireplace! It was such a treat to come back to after a day out in the snow and have a fire and a glass of wine before heading out again. It was quite cold during our stay (below zero and snowing!) so we were a bit worried that we would be cold in the boat, but not at all. The heating is works very well and we were very comfortable. In addition to this amazing place, Femke made out trip even more special by helping to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. She was extremely communicative the weeks leading to our trip and was able to accommodate a few requests I had - having some fizz on the table when we arrived and even allowing me to send a card to her work address so that it could be placed in the room prior to arrival! It was such a nice way to be able to start our trip. Femke also provides a number of maps and guides for the city that can be used which were helpful. The boat even has its own website where you can go to find all the information about the boat and some tips to ‘feel like a local’. All in all, we had an incredible stay on the Viator. The only thing I would mention is that the location is not as accessible if you’re wanting to get to and from the central part of the city. We were very excited to use the bikes that are available for use, however with all the snow on the ground we were hesitant to use them. From reading previous reviews, it sounds like everything is very accessible by bike, however without the bikes and limited public transport, we mostly ended up taking Ubers around, which can add up quite quickly! In warmer weather, I’m sure we would have had no problem getting around, however it is worth mentioning if you’re someone who would like to be able to walk or use public transit. We very much enjoyed our stay and would 100% stay again and recommend to friends as this was such a unique way to stay in Amsterdam!

Hi I'm Femke. Together with my husband and dog I live on the Viator, our converted cargo ship. We both work a full time job. Our dog, Sjem, comes form the shelter but got used to the boatlife pretty soon. He likes keeping a close eye on all the activities going on in the harbor. He won't be able to come near the apartment. During the weekends there is always some painting work to do up and around the boat. We also love walking the dog in the Westerpark with a take away coffee in one hand and a fresh croissant in the other ;-).

We purchased the boat in 2010. The first 4 years we lived on the apartment that now is the Airbnb apartment. During these 4 years we have saved money and were busy getting the licenses to be able to rebuild the cargo space into a house. We really love living on the water. It gives a great sense of freedom. It will let you experience the elements (sun rises, full moon, storms, beautiful clouds) yet you are very close to the centre of one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

We are happy we can share the experience with you and hope you will enjoy the environment and Amsterdam a much as we do.

Hope to see you around!
