Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Otter Bothy is a small, self contained cabin right on the banks of West Loch Roag, in the village of Carishader, perfectly situated for wildlife, fishing, walking, cycling, surfing and kayaking.

Otter Bothy is situated beside Otter Bunkhouse, but offers private accommodation in a small but very cosy cabin, with spectacular views across West Loch Roag. At only a few metres from the shoreline, there aren't many places as close to the water as this!

The minimum stay is 2 nights. No dogs.

The space
Otter Bothy has a very comfy double bed, with all linen provided. There are basic cooking facilities, including a two ring hob, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster, pots and pans, and crockery for two. There is also a large shower room, with toilet and sink. The bothy has a decking area with seating outside to enjoy the beautiful views.

New for 2020, we now have four sit-on top kayaks for hire, two doubles and two singles.  Prices are £30 a day for double kayaks, and £25 per day for single kayaks.

Guest access
Guests have private access to Otter Bothy. There is direct access to West Loch Roag, ideal for kayakers, and a separate drying shed for wetsuits, surfboards, bikes, and also a firepit.

Other things to note
If you're planning on bringing a car to the island, its best to book with Calmac as soon as you can, because the ferries get fully booked very quickly during summer months.

There is no bus service on a Sunday and the majority of shops and tourist attractions are closed on a Sunday, however Tesco in Stornoway is open limited hours.

Neighbourhood highlights

Uig is a remote, unspoiled part of the island, and has many beautiful beaches and cliffs, lots of wildlife, and is perfect for walking and cycling. The famous Lewis Chessmen, 12th century Viking chess pieces, were found at nearby Ardroil Beach. And the Callanish Stones are within a 20 minute drive of the bunkhouse. There are also boat trips available at Miavaig Pier, which is very close to the bunkhouse.
