Description

The space

As soon as you enter, you will feel at home in this lovely Summer cottage. It is available JUNE through AUGUST. Included is a window air conditioner and space heater for our chilly Berkshire mornings. The second bedroom has a single futon and a single inflatable mattress, as well as all linens. **Please note that the review that states the host cancelled a reservation 2 days before booking is inaccurate. A prospective guest booked the cottage in November at the last minute not realizing that this is strictly a SUMMER cottage. We had to cancel it in order for the guess to get a refund from airbnb.

Guest access

There is access to the lake (bring your kayak!!), lots of country for walking and hiking. Short drive to Mass MoCA, Tanglewood, and all other Berkshire amenities.

Interaction with guests

The owners are close by and will greet you to answer any questions you have. There is an extra room that can be used for additional guests if necessary. Cable TV in living room with flat screen TV.

The neighbourhood

Though not directly on the lake, the cottage is within walking distance to the public access where you can launch your kayak, etc.

Getting around

There is parking for one car in front of the cottage. Can accommodate two if needed.

Other things to note

Two night minimum please.

Christine was very welcoming. We texted her when we were getting close and she was waiting for us to show us around. She made fresh strawberry scones that were amazing and waiting on the table with a nice bottle of wine. The cottage was much nicer than the pictures and much more spacious than I expected. Pretty much everything you would need in the kitchen. The bed in the main bedroom was super comfy. Our favorite spot was the porch which is all lit up with little white lights inside, very whimsical. We are already talking about our visit next year.

We loved Christine's cottage! It was perfect for our week away. It was so comfortable and spotlessly clean! The location was great for us--very quiet and peaceful neighborhood and in a central location to all the things we wanted to do in the Berkshires (theatre, museums, lovely scenery). Communication was very easy with Christine--we only had a couple of questions and she answered immediately. She was a very thoughtful host--when we arrived there was a bottle of wine, cookies and cashews waiting for us; and one night, when she knew it was going to be quite cold, she made sure we knew where the space heater and an electric blanket were. We give our highest recommendation for Christine's cottage! Thank you for being a perfect host, Christine, and sharing your special place with us!

Truly, I can't say enough good things about my stay at Christine's lake cottage – but here are my essential thoughts as a "prodigal daughter" who was born and raised in Pittsfield, where the cottage is located. The cottage: It is lovely and perfect! It seems that the main portion was built in the late 19th century and expanded (a bit) over time. Christine has preserved the early character of a lake cottage, while managing to modernize it – but not too much! It is meticulously clean and decorated with obvious care. The bed linens are pristine and the furnishings are eclectic and chosen with great feeling and flair. I felt "at home" as soon as I entered. We stayed during an unusually hot and humid period in mid-August, but the bedroom air conditioner saved the day. The cottage is situated in a grove of shade trees and is a very short walk from Pontoosuc Lake, which is my favorite of the two lakes in Pittsfield, I admit. Christine has stocked the cottage with everything a traveler could possibly need, including information about all local and regional Berkshire attractions. Our host: For me, Christine was the perfect owner/host. Although she and her husband live next door, which is very reassuring, Christine gave us great privacy. She was available promptly by text, yet also made sure not to "hover." For me, that is the sign of a masterful host. She greeted us when we arrived, made sure we parked in the correct spot, gave us a tour of the lovely premises – and even provided a welcoming bottle of wine and loaf of fresh bread from the Pittsfield Rye Bakery (another local favorite). All in all, this cottage and host are wonderful finds. I highly recommend as a former "local" and now world traveler.

I was welcomed at this sweet little cottage with chocolates and a nice bottle of wine. Twinkle lights adorned the front porch! The cottage includes every necessity you can imagine and the bed was very comfortable and cozy! I felt right at home instantly in this clean sweet antique cottage. The location was a great launching point for exploration of the beauty in the Berkshires. I made my way easily to Lenox and the Mount, Becket for dinner and MA Moca on my way home for some fantastic art!

Response from Christine:
Tricia, I'm glad you enjoyed your time here, sounds like you got a lot in! Per your recommendation, I included a note in my listing clarifying that the cottage is not a "lake house" but within walking distance, which it is. There actually is a rental property called The Lake House across the lake that rents for approx. $600 per night. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

We arrived a little bit later than expected and I had a thoughtful message from Christine telling me where everything in the cabin is. She also left us amazing chocolate chip cookies! Christine was very unobtrusive (we sadly didn't get to meet her and thank her in person) but made sure to let us know that she was only a text or call away. This was so much better than staying at a hotel...we were in town for a wedding and were able to have our dog with us. The center of town was only a 10 minute drive away and there was a great supermarket in the vicinity that Christine left information for. Such a fun experience!

Response from Christine:
Irina, I'm so sorry about the smokey smell. I asked the previous guests if they had been smoking or if they had burned something on the stove. Turns out they used the oven and noticed the smokey smell then. Before you arrived I tore the stove apart and beneath one of the burners were several smelly, charred acorns. The cottage's winter residents (chipmunks and/or mice) decided that would be a good place to stash them, along with every nook and cranny they can find. It takes me several days to clean every inch of the cottage in the Spring but I somehow missed this one area between the oven and burner. Lesson learned! Again, I apologize.

We had a great stay at this lovely cottage. Immaculately clean, comfortable bed, incredibly well stocked with anything you could need. Christine has really thought of everything. She left some prosecco, a few thoughtful grocery items and treats, and even treats for our dog. The lake is a quick walk down the street with a beautiful view. Christine is available if you need her but otherwise gives you privacy. The cottage was so quiet and relaxing. We hope to be back soon.

We had a lovely weekend at this cottage in the Berkshires. The cabin has everything you could need or want to make a meal or relax on the porch. Christine even provided us with snacks and drinks, which was a delightful bonus. This was our first time in this area and would would absolutely come and start here again.

We are a married couple: Christine Codella and Bob Milligan. We spend our winters in Clearwater, FL and summers in Lanesborough, MA. Next to our summer home is a lovely cottage that we had used before building a new home. The cottage has two bedrooms, full kitchen and bath and a screened in porch. It is full of great energy and is a peaceful retreat. You can spend your evenings on the porch in your Adirondack chairs watching fireflies and reveling in the silence.
