Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
You're in the Jordaan neighbourhood by the the Anne-Frank House and the famous Westerkerk with its iconic bell-tower (the tallest structure in the city centre). Everything Amsterdam has to offer is steps from the front door

If you want to work from home, we have super fast internet. We can provide an office chair and a monitor for your stay. There’s a large work table also

This private guest-suite is in our 1657 canal house. We live onsite on the top 3 floors of the 7 storey house

The space
There's not a better location in the historic UNESCO heritage centre. You're in the Jordaan neighbourhood, just steps from the Anne-Frank House and the famous Westerkerk with its iconic bell-tower (the tallest structure in the city centre)

Your historic Amsterdam home from home is a self-contained, stylish duplex guest-suite with spectacular canal views from every single window. This historic property stands at the meeting point of two of the most famous canals in Amsterdam, the Prinsengracht and Bloemgracht. We live onsite so are here to help if necessary

The house is at the corner, so dual-aspect, with large windows east and west flooding the space with light. Once two houses, it's now one large home. Unusually for such a historic building is an open-concept space with great flow and positive energy

In spite of the age and national monument status, the building is entirely suitable for 21st century living as it was very recently renovated to a high standard for our own use.

There is very fast internet and a large table for use as your office away from home if that's what you need. We can also provide ergonomic chair and a computer monitor upon request for longer stays

If you want to cook, there is a very high-spec German kitchen with stone counter-tops, full size dishwasher, induction hob, oven, fridge-freezer as well as a European-style washing machine

Where you’ll be

Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands

You're at the meeting point of the UNESCO listed Golden Age Canal Ring ("Grachten Gordel") and the Jordaan, right in the heart of the historic city.

When you picture Amsterdam in your imagination, this is the neighbourhood you're “seeing”. Golden-age 17th century canal-houses on the major canals, smaller houses on the side canals and tiny cobbled streets between them with a warren of charming buildings. And bicycles everywhere!

Living here is like stepping back in time, especially in the quiet of the winter months and in the early morning when the mist lies across the canals. And late in the evening as the grand facades turn golden in the sunset.

But you're not cut off from modern life. You'll be very very close to the Nine Streets (for excellent and unique boutique shops). Some of the best restaurants in the city are just steps from away from the front door too and the great museums are a short walk, tram or taxi ride away.

For food shopping, there is an excellent artisanal farmers market on a Saturday (try the wild-mushrooms on toast!) and there is a close-by Albert Heijn supermarket for everyday requirements.

We also have a full visitors guide to help you find your way around.

My partner, Jonathan and I live predominantly in Amsterdam. We're exceptionally well travelled and have lived and worked around the world. I spent the last 25 years working in corporate life and recently decided it was time for a change. We're now trying to slow down a little so I am teaching wines and spirits to private students at our own accredited school beneath the apartment. I also teach business and marketing strategy to MBA students I also run a small consulting business specialising in African safaris and adventure travel. We're lucky enough to have a house in central London as well as a spectacular canal house in Amsterdam that we offer in part as a boutique apartment B&B rental. When we're in Amsterdam, we're happy to welcome guests to our other home in London. The London house is our own base when we're in the UK and is fully furnished for our own use. It feels like a real home because that's what it is. We've lived here on and off for more than 20 years. And of course when we're in Amsterdam, I'm enjoying the chance to welcome guests to our home in the heart of one of the world's most beautiful and liveable cities

During your stay

We operate under a B&B permit and are required to live on the premises so we're around if there is any problem that needs addressing.

Obviously during the pandemic we are minimizing guest contact and are observing all RIVM (Dutch Health Board) protocols. We have been fully vaccinated but will always observe social distancing and wear surgical grade (FFP2) masks. Sanitizer is also available.

The above notwithstanding we're very happy to share our own view of the city and provide insider tips.

We're also very widely travelled and normally would be happy to swap travel yarns over a glass of wine. But in the current circumstances we assume you’d prefer to be left alone.

We supply basics for a continental breakfast at no charge but are not currently offering any additional catering options

Neil runs a small wine and spirit school (called “fijnwijn”) teaching in the space below the apartment. He is an accredited teacher with the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, the world’s preeminent beverage alcohol certification organization.

He is happy to discuss providing wine classes for you and your guests if this would be of interest. Just ask :-)
