Great location with a very helpful and friendly host. You will not find a better located hotel/hostel in Penang. Next to a bus stop, right in the centre of Little India, and a 10 second walk to the main Street in Georgetown. Great for couples or groups. No communal area so a lone traveler may want to choose a livelier hostel instead. Great value for money and very kind hosts.

We had an amazing time at Cocoa Mews!! The host is so nice and welcoming. He invited us out for tea and snacks at a local restaurant immediately upon our arrival and was always offering for us to try food he had around. Very nice and welcoming guy. The location is awesome surrounded by delicious cheap restaurants. Highly recommended!!

Wifi - cranky and slow Noise - you pretty much can hear everything moving in the house. Security - there are surveillance cameras but I'm not sure if it's recording. The room door can be opened quite easily as it does not fit firmly. Comfort - hostel style, you get what you pay for. Environment - no shared common area for interaction with other people. You just go to your room and do your own things.

We spent 8 nights at cocoa mews and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. The thing that really made it great for us was the friendliness of the staff. One morning Howie(one of the managers)took us for a tour of the market for a history lesson and to taste some local foods. Our last night he and a friend of his also took us to a local BBQ place for dinner. It was amazing. They take care and feed a lot of the local stray cats which left a great impression on us. We both fell in love with a local kitten that we named Kopi O. I hope that she will still be there when we return one day. Thanks Cocoa Mews for your hospitality and for a great stay!
