Barb is a wonderful host. My daughter and I needed a 'home from home' to stay for a few days before she could move into her residence at the University of Calgary and Barb's lovely home was exactly that. Spacious, very comfortable rooms with comfy beds and a real vintage claw foot bath to use (with modern shower!). We could help ourselves to continental breakfast when we liked and made ourselves tea to have on her lovely porch in the evenings. Barb (and Sam the cute cat) were discreet but there if we needed them and I really enjoyed hearing about the history of the house and area. Barb recommended museums, shops and markets we wouldn't have known about otherwise. The house is impeccably clean, welcoming and with authentic vintage touches we both loved. Sunnyside is a safe, quirky community very convenient for Downtown but not in it - it's 10 minutes walk over Peace Bridge. House is 5 mins walk to the C train. Kensington Rd with good restaurants and a lively vibe is also 5 mins walk. Unless you want a sleek, modern air-conditioned apartment over a night club then I can't think why you would want to stay anywhere else! Frankly I was sad to leave - I was beginning to feel just a little bit Canadian by the end.

Barb was a wonderful host and whilst I didn't get chance to get to know her as much as I would have liked due to my very short stay, she was very kind to pick me up from the bus station and print out my outbound ticket for me. Her place is wonderfully located just a short walk to Prince's Island Park & Eau Claire. There is also a Safeway a few blocks away. The view from the front porch is lovely. Her home is immaculate, which was impressive as during my stay she had a very full house. I really enjoyed having a nice long bath in the shared bathroom. It's a nice extra having a keyless entry to the house and a key for your bedroom door. Adds to peace of mind for security of your belongings for sure. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!

Another great stay this time in one of the guest rooms instead of the basement suite. Definitely go for the basement suite if it's available but book early because it goes fast. Bed was comfy in room 1 upstairs.

I live in the inner city community of Sunnyside, and I love it, with all the shops, restaurants, walks surrounded by beautiful gardens, streets lined with large old deciduous and fir trees. I so enjoy the view of the city skyline from my front porch, which changes constantly with the time of day, season and weather. I have lived in Calgary for 33 years, I've traveled extensively, love the arts, yoga, painting, swimming, walks and coffee.
I have been hosting with AirBnB for 4 years, I have met so many interesting and fantastic people.
If you have any questions please send me an email. I'd love to hear from you…..
