Our apartment is attached to the main house with a separate entrance through the single car garage. It is situated on a treed lot in a quiet, save neighborhood. 1 BR, 1 BA, LR/DR with add. futon bed, full kitchen, sleeps 2-6 people.

The space

Ideal for private and business trips, sports meets and high altitude training. Maybe you would prefer not to eat out for all your meals, especially if you are on your personal special diet. Do your own shopping at the three (3) local natural food markets or at the regular supermarkets' natural food sections. Then cook your meals in a fully equipped kitchen with stove / oven, dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer and microwave oven.
The small, cozy, fully furnished apartment has one bedroom, a living-dining room area with a sofa bed, a bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. Dishes, towels and bed linens are being provided.
Cable television and wireless network are available. There is a ceiling fan in the LR area and a mobile AC can be set up either in the LR or BR. Additional stand-alone fans can be provided, if necessary. Usually the apartment cools off nicely at night with the screened windows open. The use of our washer (60 °C/sanitary program) and dryer is negotiable. There is also outside drying space. Available most of the year (please check calendar). The apartment in Flagstaff is the ideal 'base camp' for day trips (tours guided by owner available) and offers an opportunity to feel as close to being at home as possible.

Guest access

Guests will have access to a shared patio with table and chairs as well as the entire yard space.
Upon request their are a charcoal grill and a chiminea available.

Interaction with guests

We interact with our guests as much or as little as they wish. We always respect their privacy. We live in the main house adjacent to the apartment. There is one shared wall which is very well insulated, since it used to be an outside wall.

Flagstaff - near the Grand Canyon and Sedona. Flagstaff is located in the middle of a prehistoric volcanic field on a high desert plateau (approximately 7000 ft.) at the foot of the San Francisco Peaks (12,633 ft.) and along the legendary Route 66. The city is also the gateway to the majestic Grand Canyon in the north. It is close to the Sonoran Desert, Sedona and the famous red rock landscape in the south. In the east, it rises over the grass and steppe landscape leading to the Painted Desert and the Petrified Forest. To the west lies the Mohave Desert taking you to Las Vegas. The mountains of the San Francisco Peaks, with the four highest peaks in the state, Humphreys Peak (12,633 ft.), Agassiz Peak (12,356 ft.), Fremont Peak (11,969 ft.) and Abineau Peak (11,838 ft.), are visible from quite some distance, no matter which direction you are coming from.

Great Location. On edge of town to avoid city traffic and close enough to all the places we wanted to go. Kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed. Apartment was also well stocked and even had nice extras like umbrellas for the unpredictable monsoon weather in July. Private entrance is up steep driveway and stairs which was not a problem for us but might be for some. Anke communicated well the amenities before we arrived so we were fully aware of the layout. It was exactly what we needed to enjoy a getaway to the mountains.

If you are looking for a quiet place to stay, but be close to all the wonderful things that Flagstaff has to offer, I highly recommended staying at Anke's place. Anke and her husband Brian were helpful, friendly and accommodating in every way. Less than a 2 hour car ride from The Grand Canyon and less than an hour from Sedona, makes exploring all the attractions of the area super convenient!

If you plan on visiting the Grand Canyon, this place is a great place to rest and prepare for the hiking and scenic journey you will go on. The house is cozy, the bed is quite comfortable, and the kitchen has all the amenities needed to have a nice, home cooked meal. Anke has two lovely dogs. One of the dogs looks tough but is as sweet as an apple pie when he meets you, and loves to be pet (and will talk to you when you don't pet him! haha). If we head through Flagstaff again, we hope to be able to stay here again. Thanks Anke for your hospitality!

Anke and Brian were wonderful hosts! They waited until our arrival to greet us and let us know all the details of staying in their guest house. It was a wonderful experience and we felt right at home. After our 15 mile hike they let us wash our dirty clothes from the hike. A really lovely place to stay. I highly recommend it.
