The space

Mississippi Manor is an upscale, comfortable home nestled in a safe and quiet residential neighborhood. This unique home was built in 1955 and doubled in size with an addition in 2007. The historic architecture in the original part of the home, and the contemporary feel in the addition blend seamlessly. The addition has slanted wood ceilings soaring to a height of 25 feet. The loft has plexiglass railings, making it feel part of the family room and kitchen it overlooks. The house sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms. More than 6 guests will be assessed a per person fee. *Important to note for cat allergies: the owners have cats that live in the private lower level with the owners. They are not allowed in the rental area while it is rented, however, they have been in the area.

Guest access

Guests (registered guests ONLY please) have access to the entire main level of the house. Entrance is at the top of the stairs on the outside of the house. We will supply you with a code for the lock box. Guests have river access in the back yard via the stairs down to the river. Guests do not have access to a boat or other water equipment. There is no space to allow parking for guest's water equipment. We do not allow gatherings or events of any size. There are no exceptions. Any violation of this rule will incur a $200 event fee. This home is a great home for families or those wanting a quiet, suburban respite from life.

Interaction with guests

Important to note: We live in the lower level of the home. We have a separate entrance, and private living area. We may not run into each other during your stay. That said, we enjoy meeting and greeting our guests. We try to be available as needed when we are not traveling.

Other things to note

There is room for a maximum of 4 cars in the driveway. There is an "L- space" on the right side of the driveway for 2 cars, and space along the right side of the driveway (by the mailbox) for another 2 cars to park. There is parking on the street during the daytime hours only. If you are going to have more than 4 cars, please contact us.

The house is amazing, especially if you like to cook. All the appliances are commercial grade and everything is well stocked. Game room provides hours of fun.

My group of 6 seniors (siblings and spouses) were very happy with the accommodations. The comfort of the extensive seating areas was particularly noteworthy as was the layout of the kitchen with room for all to pitch in with cooking and cleaning up. The views of the Mississippi were spectacular from 2 living rooms, 2 bedrooms and the upstairs game room. A couple of us had great fun using the pool table. It should be noted that the 4th bedroom has bunk beds and it was OK with one adult in the room but might have been a problem if we had had one more adult with us. Also the entryway has rather steep steps with no railing so could be a problem for those who are not in great shape or have minor disabilities. All in all, it was a great place to stay and close to freeways and restaurants. It took about 45 min to get to Minneapolis and St. Paul and there were restaurants within 10 minute ride.

We had a lovely time. The house is huge plenty of room to gather together and enough space for everyone to have some alone time too. We really enjoyed the ping-pong table. Feels off the beaten path, but it is close to major roads so travel is a breeze.

Brian and Chris have a lovely big and truly inviting home. We were quite comfortable. The view from the deck, master bedroom, and loft looking at the Mississippi River were majestic and made one feel like they were miles away from everything. The kitchen is huge. The loft area with ping pong table and room to play games was inviting. It was a wonderful home away from home!

Brian and his wife were very friendly and helpful to us when we arrived, and early on the third day when we hosted a family-reunion gathering, Brian thoughtfully delivered bocce balls so we could play on the pristine back lawn overlooking the Mississippi River. We also gathered around the piano where my sister-in-law accompanied us in singing "Amazing Grace," one of many warm memories we have of the time we spent at their home.

Response from Brian:
Nancy and family were wonderful guests. We found them to be fun and enjoyable to chat with. The family reunion was a great experience - we love to see families have a place to gather and feel honored to be able to provide the space. Thanks for staying with us! p.s. - we did follow your suggestion and there is now a bath mat. Thanks!

Lovely big house with plenty of room for the 8 of us. It has stunning views of the Mississippi so there was always something to look at. The shops where a quick drive away and a fully equipped kitchen meant we where able to cook. The hosts where lovely and very helpful. We had a wonderful few days.
