The space
St Marks is an inspired way to stay, connect and be part of our home away from home. Enjoy our character filled house for up to 16 people in the stunning landscape of Cumbria & the Yorkshire Dales. Self catering and pet friendly and we (Damian and Joanne) live onsite, should you need any local knowledge on everything from catering to activities.

With St Marks Stays you get a true home from home. There are 8 bedrooms in total. There are 5 ensuite bedrooms on the first floor; four being spacious twin or double rooms and one having a double bed. On the second floor there is 1 ensuite bedroom, which can be either twin or double, 1 bunkbed room and 1 double bed room. The bunkbed room and double bed room share a bathroom, which has a bath, but not a shower. All bedrooms have stunning views of the surrounding countryside, toiletries and towels to freshen up after those walks in the stunning Howgill Fells, Yorkshire Dales or Lake District.

On the ground floor you enter the property through a grand hallway with a sweeping staircase. The kitchen is often the heart of your home and that’s how we want you to feel here. Our fully equipped, fitted kitchen (with fabulous window views) is open for your self catering requirements where you can cook together, or get a list of caterers that can come in and create delicious food for you. There is a traditional Aga, a double electric oven and gas hob. There is also a fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher and access to a commercial washing machine should you need it.

Our fabulous dining space off the kitchen is perfect for dinner parties (seating up to 16 people), with large windows and patio doors offering to die for views across the grounds to the hillside beyond. Two separate lounges give plenty of relaxation space to chill out, watch TV (with access to our DVD / Blu Ray and book collections) or just chat and play games. Our 61 inch tv in the main lounge is the best way to watch a movie together, and especially in the winter with the real fire burning. There is also a huge studio space that is perfect for all kinds of group retreats and courses. It can be empty for yoga mats, or have tables and chairs in for workshops.

If you don't fancy venturing out into the surrounding countryside, then just sit back in our fabulous garden and enjoy the views. We're right in the heart of the countryside so you can enjoy your chosen tipple and watch the sun go down over the beautiful Howgill Fells and stay warm in the evening around the fire pit or BBQ.

Guest access
We have off road parking and space to store cycles. You can find us off the main country road and are located 3 miles from Sedbergh town.

Other things to note
With a busy season, we do have check in and check out times that we please do really need you to keep to for the comfort of all guests booking in. Late check outs can be arranged at the time of booking if possible.

Location

Sedbergh, Cumbria, United Kingdom

St Marks Stays is easily located off the main road, 3 miles out from Sedbergh and is set in the peaceful countryside within the Howgill Fells. Our nearest neighbour is the church of St Mark opposite, otherwise your only neighbours will be sheep, the odd cow and all the local wildlife.

Sedbergh is a book town with pubs, cafes, award winning restaurants, local shops and an artist heritage mill.

We are within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and are easily accessible to the Lake District with all that has to offer.

There are numerous stunning walks into the fells straight from the doorstep, and Cautley Spout (The highest waterfall in England) is within walking distance.

During your stay
We will be around as on site hosts, along with our cocker spaniel who loves being fussed by guests; but don't worry, we are all very friendly and as you'll appreciate when you get here that the house is large enough for us not to get in your way. We have our self-contained section at the end of the house next to the studio and can mix and socialise with you as much or as little as feels right. We are on hand however to help make your stay right for you, so if there is anything special you need preparing or organising, you only need to ask.

It all started back in 2014 for us with a work sabbatical from our careers in architecture and photography to volunteer with Raleigh International overseas in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. We realised life should be about connecting with others, getting outdoors and really living life. Our Raleigh Expedition and love of travelling led us to creating a home to share with others.

We want you to feel a part of our home, with the addition of plenty of spaces to take time out on your own. Technology has taken us away from connecting as humans sometimes and we want to host a house that everybody gets involved in, creating an inspired atmosphere that leaves you with real memories. There is nothing better for the soul than being part of a group of like minded people and going back to the good old days of chatting and simply having fun together. Learning from others, discovering the world from somebody else’s point of view and having a childlike curiosity again to making friends for life. Arrive as strangers and leave as friends.
