COUNTRY IN THE CITY.
PRIVATE 3-Bdrm apartment with GOURMET KITCHEN. SW Durham only a few minutes to UNC, Whole Foods or I40. Pond, trees, gravel road, horses feels like country living. Pets allowed. ONLY 2 people living long term but may have guests.
This private apartment upstairs in duplex house has 2 bedrooms plus 3rd bedroom furnished as an office with futon bed.
Another apartment downstairs in the same house is where I live with a dog and cat, so you will hear & see us at times.

The space
This rental has been very popular on Airbnb, with great reviews. Spacious and bright 1400 sq ft separate private apartment upstairs in house. There is another separate apartment downstairs, where I live. It is completely nicely furnished with linens and all utilities, TV, strong wifi. Terrific well-appointed Kitchen with Gas Range, Professional Hood Vent, Dishwasher, RO filtered water. Stocked with enough basic supplies for your first morning or two: coffee, toilet paper, etc.
Nice open living space and kitchen on one level, then up a half flight of steps to top level with 3 rooms (bedrooms or office space), and 1 generous bathroom. There are comfortable Queen beds in both the Master & Guest room . A double Futon Sofa Bed is in the office/3rd Bedroom . The sofa in the living room does not fold out but is long and comfortable for 1 extra person for a short stay.
I am happy to offer early check-in OR late check-out if it is possible; just ask. Pets with permission, please. Contact me for Long-term pricing options.
This listing is best for only 2 guests long-term due to the septic system, but can accommodate up to 5 people for short stays. Please book the correct number of guests; or if you rent long-term, let me know if you expect short-term guests.
Plenty of outdoor space. Unique location on GRAVEL ROAD that feels like the country but is CLOSE TO EVERYTHING and literally only a few minutes away from Meadowmont, FRIDAY CENTER, UNC, and I40 (to Southpoint, Durham, RTP). Woods and a pond create a feeling of natural solitude; but note that the gravel road can have potholes and be dusty at times if you are very protective of your car.
House is divided into 2 separate private living spaces, so you will see me and my dog and cat on the property; as well as Genaro , my employee for 16+ years.
Your living area has a wool-blend carpet but all other areas of house are hard surfaces with rugs. This is a great home for a traveling professional, a couple, parents with older children. The pond could be a risk for very young children.
Shared Laundry room available for use at your convenience.
It is best to have a car for this location. Outside steps have no handrails, so not best for individuals with limited mobility .
"Country living" has pros and cons. I have heard raves from my guests about the loveliness of the spot; but there are plenty of bugs in the warm months; there are various critters around in the woods, and the gravel road can be messy at times. Late March brings the pine pollen and winter sometimes brings ice.
UNC , Friday Center, and Chapel Hill 5 mins. Southpoint 10 mins. Carrboro 15 mins.
RTP and RDU airport 15-20 mins. Duke 15-20 mins.
Downtown Durham 15-20 mins. Raleigh 20+ mins.

Guest access
Your space has a private front entrance thru the ORANGE DOOR, that opens to the living area. Sliding glass doors open to side and rear decks. Up a half flight of steps there are 3 rooms and a bathroom.
Laundry facilities are available for your use at your convenience in a shared laundry room that is located by going into the GREEN DOOR and then turn to the right thru the glass door. The downstairs apartment door is on the left, so please do not enter there.
The garage area and storage sheds are used for my small landscaping business; please do not let dogs or children wander around these storage areas.
Surrounding 4 acres including pond provide solitude, but young children must be constantly closely supervised. The south side of the property is parking/storage for my small landscaping business. Caretaker, Genaro, who has been working for me for 10+ years, lives just across the pond, and is often on the property, especially if I am traveling.
Your parking is in front of your apartment; just leave room for other cars to pass. Being in the woods, it can be very dark at night entering on the gravel driveway, but I do have solar lights outside near the parking, and you can leave your porch light on.
There is a flashlight kept by the front door for your use. We consider it very safe here.
Owner will need occasional access to change filters and other maintenance on a monthly basis unless tenant agrees to take care of these items.
Spring and Fall are pleasant times here; and winters can be somewhat mild, with occasional freezing weather. Late Dec - February are coldest months, with occasional snow or ice, and rarely a power outage. July and August will be hot and humid with lots of bugs.
There is a very nice gym and pool nearby at UNC Wellness Center in Meadowmont. Walks along our gravel road can be nice.

Other things to note
The septic system and pond need to be protected by avoiding use of strong chemicals therefore only HE Phosphate-Free detergents should be used, and only toilet paper be put in the system; no paper towels, no hair, no food, no feminine products, no bleach, no grease, no objects may be put in toilets or sinks. Please use waste can.
I love animals and welcome them if they are well-behaved. I have had some damage from nervous dogs, so I do need to be compensated for any damage or carpet cleaning.
Guests who are staying for a full month are welcome to have occasional overnight guests. I would like to be kept informed of additional guests on the property; and please make them aware of the rules for the septic system, and ask them not to wander around the landscape storage area.

Neighbourhood highlights

One of the only old gravel farm roads left in Durham/Chapel Hill, with horses grazing on pasture; but with new neighborhoods popping up at either end of George King Road, and so convenient to everything! IT IS A VERY SAFE AREA, and many people use the gravel road to run or walk, and occasionally ride horses, although it can be dusty or muddy.
From George King Road, enter my 4-acre property on a longish gravel driveway passing the pond and curving left to the front of the house. From the house, only woods and the pond can be seen; but not the road or neighboring houses. Herons and turtles can be seen on the pond. Deer and other animals are often on the property, as are bugs in the summertime. We keep a few chickens in the back of the property.
An elementary school is at the end of the road, but we have never been bothered by noise. The surrounding larger area consists mainly of newer expensive developments. Meadowmont Village, The Oaks, and other nearby commercial areas provide LOTS of convenient shopping and dining.
The GRAVEL ROAD is used by dog walkers and joggers, but it can have bothersome potholes during wet weather or be dusty during dry weather. Many of the houses along the road have been here for many years; investors have bought a few waiting for future development; but the residents have all lived here for a long time and know each other.

Official address is in Durham, NC but a bit closer to Chapel Hill/UNC than to downtown Durham/ Duke.
