Saumya's place is conveniently located close to several restaurant strips. Glisan St and Burnside St are within 5 - 15 minutes walk for food and a food truck court. If your feeling adventurous for a 30 min walk to Broadway St, there are even more shops. The neighbourhood is well designed with food and entertainment so easy to get to. Whole Foods is the neighborhood market that's an easy walk. Migration Brewery has wonderful beer and burgers. On 28th Ave past Burnside St there is a food truck court with Korean fried chicken, a wonderful brunch truck, a wonderful gyro place, and a beer bar with local brews. These were some of our favorite places. Saumya is a wonderful host with such a big heart. She is attentive to any issues that come up. The neighborhood is safe. I saw young children playing along the sidewalks. The house is lovingly maintained for a historic house. The kitchen is quite big, as is the living room. The living room has a futon sofa bed. The bed and floorboards are charmingly creaky. The bathroom has an awesome cast iron tub. Some tips. During the summer months do use the provided window fans to keep cool. After showing, open the bathroom window, place the screen over the opening, and close the window slightly so the handle keeps the screen in place. That allows fresh air to dry out the bathroom after a shower. We truly got a Portland experience staying with Saumya. Experiencing wonderful food, culture, and sights while feeling like we are living as a local. That is the heart of what traveling is about. Don't miss this chance to discover the Portland lifestyle.

Saumya's place was awesome! Cozy and tucked away but just 2 blocks from shops, restaurants, and nightlife. Saumya went out of her way to make sure I was comfortable. I'd give more stars if I could!

My mom and I stayed here during a VERY cold winter week. And we use Airbnb all the time so we are used to the pros and cons of not booking a hotel. The cons for this booking was that the water heater shut off a couple of times and the electricity in the living room cannot handle both the space heater being on with the TV at he same time. So if you cannot be flexible with that, I wouldn't recommend this place. However, the best part of our stay besides the obvious (having lots of space and being close to great shopping/eateries), was how attentive Saumya was when we did have issues :)

You guys were unbelievably good natured! It is true that this old house was struggling that very cold and icy weekend and it was definitely not the best time for visitors from Hawaii to show up! I am so sorry for your inconvenience. The electrician came the day after you left and all is working as it should have been when you were here. Happy New Year and please come back in the summer :~) !

Lots of positives here - the place is very well stocked for cooking with sharp knives, kitchen shears, cutting boards, a variety of spices, pots and pans, etc. These are things we've missed in other places we have stayed long term. We stayed here a week so having it set up for really LIVING made a big difference. We know Portland so appreciated the central location - just blocks from Restaurant Row, a discount movie theater (with pizza/beer), and a Whole Foods grocery. We had friends over and everyone did a Whoa - 'looks like my apartment during college'. Which means the floors are a bit scuffed and the furniture is a mashup. But lots of loving touches and a true artistic influence. It was warm and inviting. Everyone felt right at home. And we had our two small dogs which necessitated lots of trips down the stairs to walk them morning, noon, and night. That didn't seem to bother Saumya. It means a lot to be able to find a place that will let you have your pets with you. The welcoming spirit Saumya provides just can't be overstated!

We did not feel welcome at all. Our entire trip was impacted in a negative way because of the way Saumya treated us. I am hoping to have better experiences with more accommodating hosts in the future.

Response from Saumya:
After receiving 55 five star reviews I can genuinely say that Tammy is every Airbnb host's worst nightmare. I accepted Tammy's reservation request based on her promises that her dogs were well behaved and that she would follow the house rules. She had no previous reviews so I was aware that I was taking a chance. (URL HIDDEN)Soon after arriving her two little dogs broke out in a wild cacophony of barking. As she and her group were leaving the apartment to go sightseeing I reminded her that it was not ok to leave her dogs in the apartment if they were going to be barking. She assured me that they would not and if by chance they did I could call or text her and she would come right home and pick them up. Before she was half way down the street the dogs began their non stop barking, or more accurately, high shrilled yapping. I waited 10 minutes to see if they would calm down, when I became convinced that they would not I texted her but she did not reply. I then called her and sent an email but still no response. Hours later they came home and admitted that they did not have their telephones with them(URL HIDDEN) When Tammy realized that I was not going to allow her to use my apartment as a dog kennel she became aggressive, knocking at my private door at 11pm without bothering to text or call me first. It is people like Tammy who make it difficult for the responsible dog owners to find Airbnb apartments that will accept dogs.

Saumya's place was fantastic for our short trip in Portland. Perfect location: cute neighborhood, many great bars and restaurants at walking distance and a quick quick bus ride to downtown. The apartment is on a quiet street, with very easy street parking. We ended up cooking less than we planned to, but the kitchen had everything you may need. We were lucky to meet Saumya: she is a great host, who made our road trip even better by sharing a few ergonomics tips!

I am a Portland native who discovered my love of travel when I was 20 years old by traveling SE Asia on a shoe string. I have been traveling on and off ever since. For the last 10 years I have been working 3 months a year in Paris where I teach workshops in the Movement and Healing Arts. When I am not working I am tending to this 100+ year old house, hiking in the beautiful nature around Portland, dancing, cooking or playing with friends !

I very much enjoy welcoming fellow travelers to my upstairs apartment. I know what it is like to be in a strange new city and how a friendly and helpful host can make a difference. At the same time I know that we all need our privacy and downtime so I am sensitive to giving people their own space.

I also enjoy using airbnb for my own travel plans. I am heart warmed by the friendly hospitality I have received from my airbnb hosts in Paris.

Together with airbnb we are making the world a friendlier place and I think that is awesome.
