A cosy, converted byre set in tranquil Cumbrian countryside, this is a perfect base for exploring the Lake District or a peaceful hideaway for two. We live in the adjoining farmhouse, but you have your own parking area and separate front door. Surrounded by wildlife, trees and traditional farmland, it offers perfect peace and relaxation. There is wifi, but it's not great. Dogs welcome!
King size bed or two single beds.

The space
We have lived here for 7 years and have recently converted the cow byre attached to our traditional farmhouse into a beautiful holiday let for two people.

Please note: the drive down to the Byre is sloped in places and in winter it can be icy. Guests may find some cars struggle to get up the drive in very bad weather. There is a small chance of being snowed in, should this happen we will do all we can to get you out, but you will be perfectly warm and cosy if this happens and the scenery just becomes even more beautiful, so the best thing to do is relax and enjoy it! I will also bring you emergency cake. Unfortunately getting snowed in cannot be booked in advance!

2020 COVID update: Due to corona virus our cleaning protocols have been upgraded to include a far more thorough process of cleaning and sanitising between guests. In addition to this, where possible a full 48 hours will be blocked out of the calendar between guests to reduce any chance of infection. We have also requested that guests leave the property an hour earlier than usual at 10am and check in an hour later, after 4pm, to allow for more cleaning time. These measures have been put in place for all our safety and for your absolute reassurance. Many thanks, Emma

Guest access
The Byre is a self contained apartment comprising one bedroom, one bathroom and kitchen/living area, with a private patio area overlooking the garden.

Other things to note
The Byre at Hole House is situated at the end of a private drive, tucked away and invisible from the road. Like many rural areas our wifi is slow and may not be suitable for streaming films/tv. Mobile reception can be patchy, on a good day I can get 3G, but it probably depends which network you are with. The joys of rural living!

The Byre is in a traditional Cumbrian farming area, half an hours drive midway between Penrith and Keswick. We are near to the C2C cycle way. The closest shop and pub are in Hesket Newmarket, a 10 minute drive away. Greystoke village is 15 minutes away by car. We are about 20 minutes from the M6 off Junction 41.

I live here with my husband and our three children. I love the peace and quiet and I love to sew. I run bag making workshops and sell my handmade bags and purses online. One of my most favourite fabrics (we all have a favourite fabric right?) is tweed and I like to use the fleeces from local Herdwick flocks to make my own Herdwick Tweed. A bit niche I know, but quirky is good in my opinion. We think anyone who is looking for somewhere a bit different, proper Cumbrian countryside rather than an overcrowded tourist destination, will love it here as much as we do. The road down to our house might alarm you in its rustic, pot holed, 'where the heck are we going' way ... but we think that just adds to its charm! Come and stay and see if you agree.
