The Wainhouse is perched on a hillside above the village of Uplyme, a 7 min drive to Lyme Regis (or if you are feeling energetic a 30 min beautiful walk !). Set in an A.O.N.B, the house is a stylish and relaxing getaway, built within the footprint of a traditional cart house in the courtyard of The Old Dairy House to an open plan design. The Wainhouse is the perfect destination for families, couples or friends to explore the Jurassic Coast or simply unwind.

The space
The Wainhouse is a timber framed, well insulated construction. Cedar clad and slate roofed, it is both respectful of local traditional Dorset materials whilst striking its own contemporary note. The interior is given a warm ‘Scandi’ feeling with simple exposed plywood walls and a smooth poured resin floor.

The wood burning stove takes centre stage in the open plan ground floor space with light flooding in from the clerestory windows in the evenings and from the sliding doors at the front aspect in the mornings.

The interiors combine contemporary and vintage furnishings, work from local artists and artisans with all modern facilities, creating a clean, simple, cosy environment.

The ground floor comprises:

Open plan kitchen, dining, living room area, master bedroom, bathroom, separate shower room and utility cupboard.

- Kitchen/Dining area with table and seating for up to 6 people. Bosch appliances, fridge/freezer, double oven & hob, dishwasher, microwave oven, Dualit toaster, kettle – a fully equipped kitchen to cook, prepare and enjoy the renowned local produce.

- The Living Room: offers a cosy seating area with all-in-one music system and if you want to take in a film or DVD there's a flat screen television, complete with catch up TV & Netflix.

- Wood burner: PLEASE NOTE: The property is heated predominantly by the wood burning stove which is easy to use (we leave full instructions), efficient and heats up the whole space quickly. We will leave plenty of wood, kindling and firelighters for your arrival. Logs are complimentary from our wood store next door. In addition, there are Dimplex Oil Free column radiators which you can move around depending on where you may want a boost.

- The master bedroom offers a comfy King-size bed and ample storage. All beds have goose down duvets and mattress toppers and Egyptian cotton bed linen.

- Large bathroom with views down the valley plus a separate convenient shower room.

- There is also a small utility cupboard with washing machine.

On the mezzanine floor: PLEASE NOTE: This space has an airline wall but is open to the floor below. Please let us know in advance if you would like the stairgate fitted for young children.

- Two cosy single bed 'pods' nestled under the eaves with snug privacy curtains.

- A further double bed and study area with black out blinds .

The house has 'rural' WiFi. There is a reasonable mobile phone signal and 4G does work at the house for most networks.

Outside:

On the large patio is a BBQ and seating area, and the last of the sun’s rays can be enjoyed on a hazel wood bench in the corner of the dry river bed garden.

The Wainhouse offers a great escape from some of the hustle and bustle of life ( and Lyme Regis in peak summer season!) with walks and cycle rides from the house, through woods, up hill and down dale and vale all the way to that incredible Jurassic coast with pebbly and sandy beaches, for fossiling in the footsteps of Mary Anning or kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing trips or simply swimming. Dorset and East Devon have an enviable reputation in the foodie stakes too, with a wealth of local artisanal food and drink makers, markets, restaurants, pubs and food stalls. For the literary minded you can also follow in the footsteps of Hardy, Austen and local writer John Fowles' French Lieutenant's Woman whilst arts and craft lovers will enjoy many local galleries /studios and the bi-annual Dorset Arts Week.

Born and raised in Scotland, I have studied and worked in Newcastle, Spain and London for the past 30 years. Me and my partner Matt ( a Londoner) and our two children Alex and Frieda have made Dorset our home for the last 18 years. As natural urbanites we have not only adapted to but embraced rural life. With our kids off travelling and studying themselves, we now split our time between Bristol for work and an urban culture fix, Dorset for the outdoor life, relaxation and friends and of course travelling. We return again and again to Spain, Italy and European cities but our kids are now taking us further afield to visit them in new destinations. We are keen to share our 'getaway', the Wainhouse, which we have painstakingly brought to life from an old dairy farm building, and some of our knowledge of the area; the unique coastal landscape and beaches, the walks and cycle rides and the local food producers, markets and eateries. We are relaxed people, open minded and flexible, happy to share stories, answer questions and make recommendations but equally appreciate the value of privacy and seclusion when that's what's needed in a busy , demanding life.
