A lovely old Andalucian house in the Arabic quarter of the ancient spa town of Alhama de Granada. House has 3 good sized double bedrooms with balconies. Two bathrooms, modern kitchen, living room & private jacuzzi. Roof terrace with fantastic views. Tourist number - Vivienda Touristica de Alojamiento Rural CTC(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN).

The space

The house has been beautifully renovated by craftsmen, using locally hand made terracotta tiles, wooden shutters and other sympathetic materials. There is also a wood burning stove for those chilly winter evenings. There is plentiful on-street parking outside close to the house. The water temperature in the jacuzzi can be easily adjusted and thus used all year round.

Guest access

Guests have exclusive use of the house, terrace and jacuzzi

Interaction with guests

We live in this town so we love to offer our local knowledge on the best places to visit, the best times to catch local fiestas, our local food shops and of course favourite bars.

Other things to note

Local Cuisine - In Alhama de Granada there is still a tradition of offering a tapas free with every drink (alcoholic or soft drink). This is a wonderful way to sample much of the local cuisine. You are served whatever is in season and fresh, typically: prawns, local stew, calamari, all types of fish, roast peppers, chorizo, setas (field mushrooms), chicken, aubergine, ham, cheese, olives ... if you are a little hungrier you can always order a plate or half plate of any of the tapas. During the week a number of the bars offer 'Menu del Dia' - a set menu with a choice of three things on each course. Includes starter, main, sweet, bread, salad and a drink for 8-10 euros per person.

We had a wonderful stay in Stephen's house in Alhama de Granada. The town is wonderful and full of interest. We were lucky enough to be there to enjoy an open air concert in the square just outside the house and on our day of departure caught a bit of one of the many feast days celebrated in the town. There were busy bars and restaurants full of atmosphere and a very nice spa swimming pool just outside the town. The towns architecture was traditionally Spanish set on the backdrop of the gorge. The house itself was great. It was right in the town so it was walkable to virtually everything and for anything outside the town Stephen recommended a taxi. The house had 3 large double rooms and plenty of quiet spaces with some lovely authentic features. It was extremely hot weather during our visit but the house remained cool. There was a lovely sun terrace at the top of the building if you wished to brave the heat - the views were amazing. The family also loved chilling in the hot tub. All in all a great place to unwind, would love to return.

The house is perfectly located on a quiet street next to a magnificent church, and just a short walk from a small clutch of bars and restaurants in the square. We especially loved the beautiful views from the top terrace and our walks in the river gorge.

A delightful old house in a charming old town. The place was very quiet and comfortable, with the added bonus of the jacuzzi. One feels embedded in the old part of town, with the church square just outside the front door and a splendid view from the roof terrace. It is like a small magical labyrinth, with twisty stairs and passages leading up and down, and only a couple of low head bumping spots which is pretty good for these old places. Navigating in and out in the car was a little hairy, with very narrow streets, but once we'd done it once or twice it wasn't too difficult. Don't attempt it with a larger vehicle though. We were met by a friend of the owners who showed us round and explained everything, and there were some nice greeting touches and a few essentials provided. The trip in and out of Granada wasn't difficult and we were able to visit locally and as far afield as Cadiz in day trips. We only used one bedroom, but there is room for more with two additional bedrooms available. The town itself has a striking gorge, some characterful architecture, and pleasant bars and cafes.

We enjoyed our stay at Stephens place. It's location in the town is perfect opposite a square with running fountains and chiming bells above, which provided a soundscape to enjoy and fun guessing with the children which hour it would be . The house is on 3 levels with tiled floors with interesting patterns . As we had a chill in the early November evening - alhama de Granada is fairly high above sea level, the jacuzzi gave a perfect place to relax . The house is kitted out well and clean . Enjoyed having candles to light and make the place cosy and the view from the terrace presents rooftops to the vast agricultural landscape beyond. The town has plenty to offer with good bakery and several tapas bars . The architecture interesting with its heritage of Arabic/moorish past. We spent a day at the balenario which is a institutional place but the hot pools and swimming pool worth the visit. The gorge underneath the town is well worth a walk down .

The pictures do not do the house justice. Had such a warm welcome from Sami. Sami thank you so so much for organising the guitar. Above and beyond. If you would like a lovely home to occupy (with a jacuzzi!), in a very welcoming Spanish town with lovely wine and tapas then Alhama de Granada is definitely a place to consider

Sami greeted us and was very responsive during our stay. Alhama is a beautiful small town in the middle of an olive growing area. Amazing views and a lovely walk down the gorge. As we visited in early October, many of the cafés and restaurants were closed in the evenings limiting choice. Those we visited were good value and friendly . If you want to cycle pre book bikes early. If visiting the Alhambra in Granada, this also needs booking early.

The house has a fantastic location within 3-4 minutes walk of the main square of Alhama. We were met and shown round by Steve's friend Sami who provided lots of useful local info as well as very quickly providing a fan for the bedroom. The roof terrace has amazing views and having the jacuzzi to relax in at the end of the day was a real treat. Unfortunately we didn't get to see much of the 'real' Alhama as the Feria was on over the weekend we arrived and every bar and restaurant was full to capacity. The town certainly had a great buzz over the three days but we we weren't able to experience the lovely laid back feel of the place until our last day on Tuesday. Overall a very enjoyable stay but not quite as relaxing as we had had in mind.

My wife and I are from the UK originally, we retired a couple of years ago. We have 3 grown up kids, one is working in London and two are working in Leeds. Since retirement we spend a lot more time in this part of Andalucia, our Spanish is improving (slowly) and we are certainly getting to know the area even better. It is a delight to be here. We tend to take a big trip at least once a year, either inside Spain (Seville, Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona, Cordoba) or elsewhere in the world. When we travel we seek out small boutique places or apartment/home rentals.
