Margate Location House was created by set and interior designer Amy Exton in her signature acid-aesthetic. The house is hired for fashion shoots and music videos, but Amy has now opened her doors for overnight stays for those wanting a unique holiday stay in Margate. The house is full of colour and print, and is an ideal base for exploring Margate.

The space
Margate Location House is a three storey property within a larger development. Built in 1902, it was originally a hospital for children with tuberculosis, so has lots of character. The house consists of a large kitchen-diner on the ground floor which opens up onto a small private courtyard for catching a sea breeze or eating al-fresco in the warmer months. There's a lounge on the first floor (with a comfy 3 seater sofa that acts as the bed fornthe 5th person), and two bedrooms and a luxurious pink bathroom on the top floor.

The house has been featured in The Guardian & The Observer, the BBC, and in TimeOut as one of the most colourful places to stay in the UK. MLH is also on Instagram if you want to keep up to date with what's been going on and to see more pics @margatelocationhouse.

IMPORTANT INFO: We've taken advantage of lockdown to do a bit of redecorating, and have changed the hallways and stairs. The photos are soon to be updated, but please note those areas are a little different to the photos. It's still bright and colourful (just with white walls); the first floor has lime green stairs with cow-print floor, and the top landing has hot-pink stairs with zebra-print floor.

Where you’ll be

Kent, England, United Kingdom

The house is located in the heart of Cliftonville, which is bustling with coffee shops, eateries and exciting independent businesses. The stunning beaches are just a 5 minute walk down the road, with the tidal pool - which is open for sea bathing all year round - just 10 minutes away. Walk 10 minutes in the other direction and you'll reach Margate Old Town, the Turner Contemporary and the Main Sands.

The house is also a great base for exploring Broadstairs and Ramsgate. Broadstairs is around 10 minutes by car, and Ramsgate around 20. There are frequent trains to both, and regular buses to both from Northdown Road (just around the corner). Taxis are also affordable, costing between £7-£12 each way.

I moved to Margate from London in the summer of 2016 with my black and white cockapoo Presley. I work as a set designer and art director, and am now building a career in interior design. I've spent the past 18 months designing and creating Margate Location House, which is first and foremost my home, but which I also rent out for photoshoots, music videos and commercials. I've now decided to open the doors for over night stays for those of you wanting a unique holiday stay in Margate. MLH has two double bedrooms, and there is room for 2 additional guests to sleep on sofas. There is a large lounge, kitchen diner, and a luxurious pink bathroom. There is also a small courtyard for catching a sea breeze in the warmer months, or to eat al-fresco. You'll have the house completely to yourselves. There's a fully equipped kitchen so you can eat in, or alternatively you'll be within walking distance to Margates many restaurants and cafes. The sea is just a 5 minute walk down the road.
