This non-smoking apartment on Portland's charming Munjoy Hill is well-stocked for either a couple or for a small family with infants/children. Great location, close to spectacular harbor-view parks, and an easy walk to trendy restaurants, a playground, waterfront trails, the Old Port, ferries, and much more. Parents -- no need to haul baby equipment; use the pack n play, stroller, booster chair, toys, books, etc. that we have for when our grandchildren visit.

The space
This tastefully-decorated first floor apartment has two small steps up to a private entrance with key pad lock. For the adults, the front bedroom has a new, comfy queen-size memory foam mattress on a sturdy platform, with quality linens. For kids, there is a well-made bunk bed in the back room; toys, games and books suitable for a range of ages; and a shared back yard with perennial gardens, and a small grassy play area. The full-sized eat-in kitchen is equipped with a gas stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee-maker, and a full complement of flatware, plates, glasses, cookware and utensils, including toddler-friendly options. A bright bathroom features period fixtures, including a clawfoot tub with shower. The living room includes a couch, big screen TV with cable, small work desk, and assortment of books and guides about Portland.

Basic breakfast fixings (a loaf of artisanal bread, local butter, cage-free eggs, orange juice, local coffee, tea, assorted condiments, and olive oil) are provided. The kitchen is equipped with everything needed to whip up your own tasty meal.

Parents: see the photos for more detail on kid-friendly items.

Of note: the apartment has a window air conditioner unit, not central air. Given Maine weather, this is usually sufficient.

Please note that while the unit is fully furnished in most ways, the apartment does not have a dishwasher, clothes washer or clothes dryer. There is a laundromat approximately 3 blocks away.

Guest access
The apartment itself is private, with a separate entrance. Guests have shared use of the yard and garden behind the house, with a small table and two chairs for use by this unit. While people frequently enjoy the outside space for morning coffee or quiet conversation, out of consideration for others residing nearby, we ask that you move conversation inside by 10 pm on weekdays and 11 pm on weekends, at the latest.

Other things to note
Please note that while it is fully-furnished in most ways, the apartment does not have a dishwasher, clothes washer or clothes dryer in the unit. There is a laundromat approximately 3 blocks away.

There are two steps up to the unit.

Out of consideration for others, we ask that outdoor conversation be moved inside by 10:00 pm on week days and 11:00 pm on weekends at the latest.

The apartment has a window air conditioner unit, not central air conditioning. Given Maine weather, that is usually adequate.

Our normal check in time is 3 - 10 pm, but other arrangements may be possible by prior arrangement for late arrivals or earlier occupancy if bookings permit.

This unit is registered with the City of Portland for short term rental, registration #STHR-001057-2019.

The Munjoy Hill neighborhood is enjoying a renaissance. While always blessed with stunning harbor views and sea breezes, the last decade has brought Gentrification!, complete with a lot of small trendy restaurants, coffee shops, independent bookstores, craft beer and craft distilling. The cool vibe has spilled out from the Old Port, along Washington Avenue at the foot of Munjoy Hill, which now boasts the newest concentration of happening places. Between the spectacular scenery, parks and walking/running trails, historic buildings and landscapes, performances at St. Lawrence Arts, food from all over, and cocktails made from "farm to flask small batch spirits", one could spend an entire weekend in the Munjoy Hill neighborhood without even venturing into the rest of Portland. It is all within a pleasant 1/2 to 1 mile meander, taking in city- and harbor-views, or a super-quick drive.

My husband and I have lived in Portland for over 35 years. We enjoy sharing our knowledge of the area with others, but will let our guests set the tone for the level of interaction. There are so many different ways to experience the best of Portland and the region, with or without a car. Our children are grown, but their favorite activities and special Portland haunts are still fresh in our minds. Particular interests are historic preservation, urban design, juvenile justice, sailing, gardening, enjoying performing arts, and travel.

During your stay
We have lived in Portland for 40+ years and love sharing information about our city with others. We live upstairs from the Airbnb so are frequently handy to answer questions or provide the needed spice or kitchen utensil. But we appreciate that many people like to find their own way and set their own agenda, so we defer to our guests to set the desired level of interaction. When we are away, there is a property manager available to respond to any issues.
