Neighbourhood highlights

The Schlei is one of the four fjords of Schleswig-Holstein. It is sometimes narrow as a river, sometimes wide as a lake and has a reduced salt content compared to the Baltic Sea due to freshwater inflows through streams and floodplains. Along the shore areas with cliffs and small bays runs a band of landscape and nature reserves. The entire Schlei is a breeding, resting and passage area for birds. The impressive and beautiful hilly landscape that surrounds the Schlei on both sides has an equally high level of biodiversity. It belongs to a subspace of Schleswig-Holstein with the strongest surface relief. Long-stretched moraine trains mark the diverse cultural landscape. Steep shores as well as shallow, sandy and white-lit beach walls give the Baltic Sea coast its graceful character. In addition to the connection to overarching cycle paths, the nature park offers a wide range of running and walking opportunities. The region can also be explored by steamship or steam train. A diverse cultural offer rounds off the original charm of the nature park.
