Everyone is welcome here at Forest Bliss Cottage located 300m up on the Hunters Hills. We have long views east to , the sea at St Andrews to Timaru, to the Port Hills, Four Peaks, Fox Peak . Forest Bliss is a sustainable exotic forest surrounded by pasture lands. We hope that staying in our quiet, sunny cottage you can have time to relax/rejuvenate yourself on your journey enjoying fresh country air, peaceful walks and bird watching. We hope to see you soon!

Birds in the sky
We look out on hawks soaring on the air between the valleys below, and seasonal flocks of quail, finches, wood pigeon mingle with the resident bellbird, magpie and all the small birds.

We are 30 mins from Timaru, 5 mins from Otaio Gorge DOC reserve (summer swimming hole), 15 mins from Mt Nimrod DOC reserve (hill walking), 20 mins from lime rock cave drawings(Maori), 15 mins to Maungati Golf Course.

Wallabies can be a problem on the roads at night, so please drive cautiously.

Where you’ll be

Hunters Hills, Canterbury, New Zealand

Our forest is surrounded by grazing land. Behind us the hills are the Hunter Range with only farm tracks between us and the Hakataramea valley. We are on the Backline Road, because it is right on the base of the hills. Farmers moving animals and handling them are the main neighborhood sounds. It is usually very tranquil and peaceful.
During the summer please be cautious on these shingle roads as contractors driving huge tractors pulling hay balers and silage equipment can take up the whole road and can not stop easily. You can see the dust before you see them. Large mobs of sheep are another thing. You just cant be in a hurry.
