This was a peaceful little paradise for our honeymoon. Hania was great, but being a few miles outside Hania in a peaceful area with great views was much better for us. The place is even better than the photos. Sofia made sure everything was perfect for us and her hospitality and generosity went above and beyond anything we'd experienced before.
We had a great time at Sofia's and Theo's place in Koufos. We arrived with our 3 year old daughter and thoroughly enjoyed Sofia's and Theo's hospitality. The apartment is modern and clean and the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed and more: home-made jam, olive oil and fruit were waiting for us, as well as milk and butter in the fridge.
The beds are comfy and we woke refreshed, hearing birds sing and numerous roosters in the area crow.
The apartment is far from the hustle and bustle of nearby Chania, but it's easy to reach both Chania, as Akrotiri or even Sougia on the south coast.
Our highlight was a dinner together with Sofia and Theo in a lovely taverna in neighbouring village Vatolakkos, where we had a great time discovering the local cuisine and chit chat with our hosts.
All in all we thouroughly enjoyed our time in Koufos and will be back soon!
Sofia and her husband were great hosts! The apartment comes stocked with local products and food for breakfast which is great! Good wifi connection, good water pressure. The apartment is located in a great part of the region allowing for easy access to some of the most beautiful locations in Crete. We highly recommend it!
The cottage was very nice and clean. All the equipment was there to cook and we had even some more like coffee/tea and fruit. Sofia bought us nice food for breakfast we could make ourselves. It was nice to enjoy the view when eating outside. In general a lovely cottage in a relax environment near to Chania and the botanical garden.
Hawk Hill Cottage is nestled on the hillside amongst orange and lemon groves and makes a peaceful and idyllic setting to spend your time in Crete. You can watch the sun come up from the delightful veranda where you can sit and take breakfast in the sun or dinner in the cool of the evening looking onto the beautiful Lefka Ori (White Mountains). This is the real Crete and real countryside.
Sofia and her husband are fantastic hosts - they welcomed us with a sack full of oranges and grapefruit and had left us ample supplies for breakfast in the fridge. They speak very good English and were very sociable. At Hawk Hill Cottage you have the benefit of 'your own place' but with local hosts next door should you have any inquiries or needs. It's a lovely area and even in high season should be well away from the hustle and bustle of sunbed stealing tourists.
Thank you both for a lovely stay in your fantastic home on that beautiful island. I have a feeling we will be back.
Ash & Sal
Back home. We have to declare: it's cold, 0°C, relating to temperature and human company. No comparison to our vacation in Crete. So it's easy to remember the cretan warmth, around 20°C in November, and the heartiness of our hosts.
We are missing them and in the morning the lovely singing of their neighbour's rooster.
Sofia and Theo were very helpful and generous. At all time they gave us hints for our explorations and hikes. At least we don't want to forget to thank them, Theo's father and their neighbour for fruits, vegetables, eggs and not at least the delicious olive oil.
Their cottage with its great view will always have a magnetic effect to us to come back again and visit Sofia and Theo for one more time.
(Extra special thank you to the both cretan hikers which have found the lens cap of my camera and positioned it on the roof of our car.)
thank you very much again for your hospitality und your support.
We enjoyed it very much and became almost familiar to all the cats, dogs and chicken around your Cottage. One week is a short period to relax, but we feel very much at home at your cosy cottage. We hope, your olive harvest will be good and you won´t have to work so much.
We will see both of you next spring, have a good time, say hello to Theo.
all the best from Theo and Christine
