A large terraced house on a quiet green square, perfectly located 5 mins walk away from the beach and all Margate attractions. Prized by its guests for its comfortable beds, beautiful design, decor and plants, and excellent hosting.

Built in 1835 on Hawley Square, the finest Georgian garden square in town, once the summer home to London's gentry, the house has been fully refurbished with a specialist 'light touch' conservation approach by its owner and inhabitant, architect Sam Causer.

The space
THE HOUSE
The large, quiet house, faces south onto a Georgian Garden Square.

BEDROOMS
Both of the two bedrooms have classic walnut-veneer bed frames with white Egyptian cotton feather duvet and pillows.

For bookings of up to 2 guests only one bedroom will be prepared. The second bedroom will be locked off unless 3 or more people are booked to stay, or you specifically request that you would like two bedrooms, which includes an extra cost for the booking. If you would like both bedrooms, please select '3 guests' to stay which will update the cost.

The beds will be prepared with 4 pillows and a duvet on each bed.

KITCHEN
In the kitchen you will find a basic assortment of products and usual facilities for cooking, so no need to bring anything unless you plan on doing something complex. We will provide fresh products for breakfast too, such as organic milk and eggs, bread and cereal etc. Coffee and tea is provided. There are also several great cafes and restaurants within a few minutes walk from the house if you prefer not to cook. In the house manual you will find a constantly updated list of those we love, but we are always happy to provide further recommendations if you have more specific tastes/dietary requirements.

DINING ROOM
The sunny dining room has a large bay window overlooking the square. The table seats four, but can accommodate more upon request.

SITTING ROOM
The sun and plant-filled sitting room also has a large bay window overlooking the square.

BATHROOM
The bathroom at the top of the house has far-reaching views across the rooftops of Margate, with a glimpse of the sea. There's a shower and a large bath.

PLANTS
We love plants and we have plenty in each room including the bathroom. We invest a lot in keeping them in good condition because they bring an incredible good feeling inside our home.

INTERNET
Free, fast, unlimited wireless internet is provided.

WE DON'T HAVE
TV (but we have a License if you want to bring a laptop or tablet)

Hello, I'm Carlos, a Margate-based Colombian artist working in the fields of performing and visual arts, heritage activism, pedagogy and curating. My work happens often outside Margate and UK, so our house is often empty for you to stay in and help keep the plants watered. You may hear from either me or my architect husband Sam about the arrangements.

If you are interested you can see both of our work in our websites Carlos Maria Romero and Sam Causer, where you will find other local interiors and architecture projects he has done. Sam's practice specialises in heritage, that is something both of us have a passion for. We also love our town and we work hard to keep it unique, fair and diverse.

We are founders of Margate Coastal Park Promotion Group, a not-for-profit community group which aims are to develop a shared understanding of the history and significance of the continuous stretch of open space that lines the coast of Margate, including its potential as a heritage site of international importance and its value as a public park and amenity; and to celebrate and connect the diversity of contemporary user-groups associated with the Coastal Park, working with them to develop a shared agenda for the protection and enhancement of this public space and the rights and well-being of the community.

During your stay

We usually don't meet the guests. The keys will be left in a safe place, and all instructions for the house can be found on the dining room table. This allows you to check-in at your own convenience after the agreed time. We encourage you to please text or give us a call to let us know when you are arriving or that you have arrived and picked up the keys. This is also an opportunity for us to welcome you to Margate, run through the basics of the house, and for you to ask us any questions you might have about the house or Margate before you start your stay.
