Sat at the edge of Argyll Forest Park at the foot of the magical Puck's Glen, Stravaigin Lodge is a self-catering traditional Scottish log cabin just ten minutes north of Dunoon and within walking distance of Benmore Botanical Gardens and Loch Eck.

The space

One of 18 privately owned lodges, collectively known as Lamont Lodges, Stravaigin Lodge is a perfect base for exploring any number of gloriously tranquil glens and riverside walks. Or if you're looking for something a little more adventurous the magnificent Beinn Mhor is just up the road while the surrounding forests, rivers and lochs are the perfect place for fishing, mountain biking or quadbiking.

Guest access

We include Egyptian cotton towels and bed linens for our guests.

The covered porch is an ideal spot for overlooking the valley (and bird feeders). On a daily basis you will see blue tits, great tits, coal tits, robins, chaffinch, bull finch, green finch and occasionally a wren or a pair of jays. The rare red squirrel is also a thriving here in Cowal - indeed Cowal is one of the last red squirrel "strongholds" left in Scotland :)

A full list of amenities are as follows:

Two double rooms, one twin room, sleeps six.

Large lounge with view overlooking the valley. Wi-fi Internet, TV, DVD, hi-fi with iPod dock and several books, boardgames, CDs and DVDs.

Large kitchen with dining table seating six, cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher and plenty of cutlery, crockery, pans, cups and glassware.

Recently upgraded bathroom with shower/bath.

Washing machine / dryer.

Electric convector heaters in all rooms plus additional heaters.

Dedicated car parking spaces adjacent to the lodge.

Large covered verandah with table and chairs at front of the lodge, with wooden gate preventing your small ones/dogs making a quick getaway.

Egyptian cotton bed linen and towels are included.

A child’s cot can be made available. Please bring your own bedding. We have a high chair too.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome by prior arrangement and subject to an additional charge of £15.

Smoking is not permitted within the lodge.

This was our first time staying in a lodge so we hadn't any idea what to expect, but we were really pleased with how spacious the lodge felt and how cosy and homely it was. The area is second to none for natural beauty and the local restaurants were good. The supermarket was no more than 10mins away and there is a place called 'The wee butchers' by the roadside that has good quality local meats. We took a day trip to Bute on the Colintraive ferry- 30 min drive and 5 min ferry trip- were blessed by fantastic weather and scenery. I would highly recommend taking a bit of time out to stay here and explore the area. Many thanks to Gordon Andrew

The cabin is very thoughtfully stocked with everything you need, a real home away from home. It's in a fabulous location next to the stunning Pucks Glen but also well located to travel to other places of interest. We hope to visit again and noticed from the guest book that people do continue to return which just shows what a great host Gordon is. Many thanks

This lovely lodge is one of a small number next to the most delightful glen in the Argyll Forest Park. It is ten minutes from the friendly town of Dunoon, and enjoys beautiful views. It is very well equipped, and even has wifi. We could not recommend it more highly.

A lovely cosy lodge, well-kitted out and in a great location. Fantastic for little ones as well with a cot and high chair available for use. Electricity is charged extra, but if the storage heaters are used correctly and you don't waste heating in rooms not in use, it is not too expensive. Good communication with owner - would definitely return!

We had a fantastic stay at Gordon's place! Everything we needed was supplied and the location was fab for us, however we did have a car which made it easy to travel around. Gordon's communication was great throughout, and the information provided on how to use the storage heaters was very helpful! However it was quite cold at night, and we regretted not bringing a hot water bottle! All round great experience. Thank you!

Response from Gordon:
Hi Laura, thanks for your feedback....really glad you enjoyed the place. I should have said, there are hot water bottles in the bottom drawers of the chests in each room, all with fluffy covers.....plus there's an electric blanket for those winter nights in the bottom drawer in the double room and some more regular blankets too.
