Get the full Singapore experience living in a part of her history by staying in a traditional shophouse located in Chinatown. Arguably the most amazing location with the vibrant citylife she has to offer in immediate proximity. Other than being a private room, it is also spacious making rare in this area at its pricing. Enjoy the amazing surroundings with the mix of old Singapore and the modern CBD with easy access to almost everywhere

The space

A room size (15 sqm) that is uncommon in this area without breaking the bank.

The room is very spacious with high ceilings and is spacious enough to lounge around in instead of the common lounge area if you want privacy and personal space. The room consist of a very comfortable queen sized bed, a vanity table, wardrobe, daybed and hairdryer for your use in the room.

Fitted with modern furniture and some old traditional shophouse touches like a ceiling fan and florescent tube lights, this room is very comfortable with all linens and towels provided.

One of the best things about this room is that it is in a Shop House and not in a big apartment block like most housing in Singapore which gives it a charming peaceful vibe.

There is a helper that comes in once weekly to clean the whole place, and should she be around during your stay, she can help you with your ironing if you need.

To keep it comfortable for the apartment, please note that the maximum capacity for this room is 3 adults. Extra bed will be the luxury daybed that can be converted into an extra bed to accommodate the third guest. Please note that the extra bed is more suitable for a smaller or medium sized guest- Please see daybed in photos for reference)

Shared common toilet and shower (Toilet and Shower are separate)

Val's flat is in a relatively quiet street in Chinatown, but right next to the street-markets and public transport. We very much enjoyed our stay: it was comfortable, quiet and very convenient. Val greeted us even though it was the early hours of the morning, and was very friendly and helpful. The room AC was lovely and cool, important after walking in Singapore's steambath atmosphere. She let us use her washing machine, which was much appreciated.

It troubles me to leave a negative review and potentially impact on someone's livelihood, but my experience at Val's wasn't great and I hope this feedback is constructive. Negatives: Value for Money: Ultimately, the room was more expensive than a local hotel with non of the charm or personal touch of an Air BnB. Host Interaction: I often stay in Air BnBs and local knowledge is invaluable. Val and I didn't meet during my short stay but there was little effort to provide information on the local area. I had to contact Val for the wifi details, for example. A welcome pack would be really useful. Tidiness: While the room was clean, the common areas were full of washing, shoes etc. I really felt like a lived in flat, less a BnB. Positives: Location: Very handy location, close to markets, eateries and travel. Communication: Val was easily contactable and very kindly let me leave my luggage on day of departure.

Val was really helpful and friendly, and prior to arrival answered all my queries promptly. Room was basic and simple - ideal for my 2 night stay. Location in Chinatown superb - lots to see and do, great food nearby and public transport and taxi easy. Just need to be aware that its a 24 hr busy and noisy street - no problem for me but might be for others.

Val was a great host, very welcoming and helpful and makes you feel at ease around the house. The location is great for exploring the Chinatown shops, restaurants and hawker food markets that are all within a few minutes walk. Plus it's only a 15 minutes walk into the central Business district. MRTs are also close by for exploring further afield. I would certainly recommend Val as a host.

Very easy to find from the excellent directions. Perfect location for exploring this wonderful city. All local amenities of Chinatown, on the doorstep or within easy walking distance. MRT station round the corner, perfect. Room fronts on to the street, with louvered shutters, good size, clean, comfortable, good fan and great air con, exactly as per photographs, excellent. Street can be noisy at night, thought it didn't disturb us, even at a very busy time for the city. Val is the perfect host, very welcoming, friendly, helpful, saved us lots of money with tips on communications, getting around and where to eat. It was like living in Singapore, not just visiting. Couldn't fault this excellent listing. Will definitely stay again.

We loved staying at Val's shophouse. The apartment was clean, safe and an authentic experience (i.e. it hasn't been converted into a boutique guesthouse). Val was a super host, and gave us some great local info on what to see and do in the area. All in all, we will definitely be back next time we are in Singapore.

My stay at Val's apartment was wonderful! It was the best experience I had so far on Airbnb and it was all thanks to Val! She was always kind and willing to help, making my stay a fantastic one and giving awesome tips to truly enjoy Singapore! The room was very nice and clean. Exactly as described and perfectly located in the middle of chinatown! Everything is reachable by foot and there are lots of choices for food and bars! I will definitely stay at Val's again when I am back in Singapore!
