We have a lovely, renovated "tiny house" and are happy to share it with others! My husband and I have the good fortune to be tucked away in the North Carolina woods, surrounded by trees and wildlife... but only 10 minutes from downtown Chapel Hill. We recently renovated an old "shack" on our property and turned it into a beautiful, welcoming guest house. It sleeps 2 comfortably, but has a convertible couch if you are +1. Read on for more details!

The space
*** I am sorry to have to add this disclaimer, but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not rent our place if you are uncomfortable using a composting toilet. There is absolutely no other option once you are here!!!*** Our tiny house is completely private and set back in the trees. There is a downstairs living space with a convertible (sleeper) couch, chair, flat screen tv and well equipped kitchenette (oven, microwave, induction hot plate for cooking, fridge, coffee, tea, cream, fruit, condiments, etc.). Upstairs you will find a super comfy queen size bed and calming views of the forest in every direction. The bathroom is beautiful with handmade tiles, a walk-in shower and an eco-friendly composting toilet*. We are a short five minute ride to the restaurants and shops in the charming town of Carrboro (called the Paris of the south, though that's kind of a stretch!) and 10 minutes to downtown Chapel Hill. We are close to University Lake (rent a boat and go fishing), many hiking paths, and Carrboro's weekly farmer's market. The entrance to the highway is only 5 minutes away, or drive over to park and ride and take the free UNC bus all over town. If you are here to visit colleges, we're 10 minutes from UNC, 20 minutes from Duke, and 35 minutes from NC State.

*Composting toilets are not on everyone's radar, but they are great for the environment and don't use any water! There's no bad odor at all and you use regular toilet paper. We understand that some people are skeptical, so checkout this helpful article if you'd like more information: https://www.shoptinyhouses.com/pages/the-best-composting-toilet-buyers-guide-and-review

Guest access
You'll find most everything you need in the tiny house, but we are right here if you have any problems. Need to do a load of laundry? Just ask! Want dinner recommendations? We're big foodies and love to talk food. Feel like snuggling some dogs... no problem! :)

Other things to note
We are located just outside Chapel Hill city limits, surrounded by tall pine, oak, and magnolia trees. On any given day you will see crows, hawks, owls, vultures, squirrels, bunnies, frogs and toads, lizards and snakes and deer. For sure you will see 4 crazy dogs, and maybe other critters, too! We are on 6 acres of land that back up to park land, so you can hike for miles if you so desire. In all honesty, the house is really just a way to be in and enjoy the woods.

I am an artist who lives in beautiful Chapel Hill, NC. These days I concentrate on jewelry design and I am very fortunate to have a large art studio on my property where I make all of my designs. I grew up on the east coast just outside of Boston and spent the past 18 yrs living in San Francisco. I have traveled all over the world - my longest stays being in France and Germany where I lived for a couple of years. I speak fluent French, mediocre Spanish and kindergarten level German! Some things I really love: all animals, cooking exotic foods, going out to new restaurants, gardening, creative projects, live music, playing with toddlers, traveling, meeting new people, coffee coffee and more coffee, and HOME! My husband, Jonny, is a native Californian. He was born and raised in the beautiful redwoods of Northern California and had never left the west coast until we moved to North Carolina 3 years ago. Jonny is just about the friendliest and most caring person you will ever meet. He makes friends wherever we go and is the first person to jump in and help when someone needs a hand. Some of his favorite things are: his daughter Madison, the SF giants, the Golden State Warriors, the UNC Tarheels, building something from scratch, cooking new foods, the Lost Coast, animals, being in nature, and a good, cold beer!

During your stay
My husband and I are well traveled, inquisitive and friendly. We are both artists and have a large studio for jewelry design, painting, ceramics and woodworking. We love to meet new people and welcome as much or as little interaction as you are comfortable with. We are often on the back patio in the nice weather months and would love for you to join us if you feel like it!
