Where you’ll be

Lahansai, Chang Wat Buri Ram, Thailand

Ban Khowk Wan Village is a small village in the Lahansai district of Buriram province. The main industry in Khok Wan is agriculture, primarily rice, rubber, sugar, tapioca, and eucalyptus. The people here are amazingly friendly and interested in foreigners. It is completely unlike the tourist areas of thailand where locals are making business from tourism. It is not uncommon for complete strangers to invite you in to share a meal, or a drink of rice whiskey. People here like to party and there are often events on holidays, weddings, funerals, and celebrations for men entering the monkhood when virtually the whole community gets together for music, dancing, eating and drinking. These parties often start early and end late, some will go on for several days. Guests might be asked to join in the fun!

I am a retired professional from the New York area. My wife Karn grew up here in Khowk Wan village and has also lived in Bangkok and The USA. We have always loved to travel and we feel the best part about traveling is meeting new and different people. Since we moved back to Thailand over 6 years ago and had our son PanDee we have worked hard to build a beautiful house and garden. Now that our son is getting older we do not get to travel as much as we once did, so we would like to share our home and our small, but interesting, community with other fellow travelers, and we look forward to meeting some cool people along the way. I addition to hosting our Lost Garden Bungalow, we can also offer our guests transportation and/or tours of the local area, help making travel arrangements, take local hikes to learn about the loacal farming, produce and natural areas. We are happy to recommend the best retaurants in our area or the place with the coldest beer. we can provide taxi service just about anywhere within a 400km radius. We can help with motorbike rental, provide laundry service and prepare meals with advance notice. Karn is a great cook and would be happy to teach a little about either Thai cooking or the local Isaan style. We know this is one of the last places people think about visiting when traveling to Thailand, but we are really proud of our little part of the world, we love it, and are happy to share it.

During your stay

Our Lost Garden Bungalow is our back garden approxamately 50 meters from the main house where our family lives. Although they are not far from each other the houses are seperated by mature trees so you can hardly tell that there is another house nearbye. This gives our guesthouse an atmosphere of natural solitude. We respect that space and allow guests total privacy to the bungalow and the back part of our garden.
However, there are common areas like the bar and pool room, the outdoor kitchen, the front porch of the main house and the other areas in the garden where our family may be working or playing and there will be some interaction.
However this is a rural area with no tourist facilities, so most guests will want some help with transportation, communication and general information. We are here to help! We can assist with basic info or even provide tours and transportation service. It is all up to you. We would be happy to take our guests on a light hike around the village to experience the lifestyle of rural Thailand. We can take guests on nature and farm hikes to learn about the areas natural enviroment and local agriculture. Karn can offer cooking classes where guests can gather ingredients from the garden, farm and market and then try their skills at making a few Thai dishes. We can take guests to explore the local ancient khmer temples of Phanom Rung, or even some of the less accesable ancient sites along the Thai/Cambodian border. We can also go to the local reservoir where there are great waterside restaurants and swimming.
So the level of interaction can be decided by our guests. If they prefer to come and go in privacy that is fully respected. If they prefer to have a tour, share stories, or a chat over a beer, we enjoy the interaction and are happy to share.
