"Stone Cottage" was built as a bluestone quarry manager's residence in 1862 from local bluestone and was lovingly restored in 2014. We are adjacent to Woowookarung Regional Park, popular for bush walking and mountain bike riding. Stone Cottage offers old world charm with modern amenities. You will not be sharing with any others. The main bedroom has a queen size bed & the main sitting area has a single bed. . A fully equipped kitchen allows for longer stays. (Ballarat CBD 10 mins; Shops-5 mins)

The space
Our cottage is unique in the Ballarat area, as it is constructed from free-stone rock and mud. It was built in 1862 and lay derelict for 60 years. We renovated it in 2014 and won two Heritage awards for our work. The cottage overlooks Canadian Creek, which runs through the Woowookarung Regional Park. Our property is adjacent to native bush with grass trees, native flowers and gold mining remains. Bush tracks allow for walks or bike rides. For those that want a more relaxed stay, you can just sit on the back deck and enjoy the vista of gum trees along the creek. You may be lucky enough to see visiting kangaroos, wallabies or the occasional koala.

Guest access
Full access to the self contained cottage, which is separate to our main house.

The house will not be occupied by anyone else.

There is a private driveway and undercover carport next to the cottage.

Other things to note
There is no laundry in the cottage, but everything else is provided for an enjoyable stay - breakfast provisions, (cereal, milk, juice, bread and condiments, tea, coffee and sugar); bedding, towels, heating.
Free unlimited Wifi, TV, books and games.

Location

Mount Helen, Victoria, Australia

We are located between Ballarat and Buninyong, near the base of Green Hill. Green Hill was a small village established in the 1800's, but little remains of the original settlement. Market gardens were established to service the gold-miners of the area, and relics of the gold era are close by, with mine shafts (all capped and safe), old water courses, and sluiced areas through the bush. Woowookarung Regional Park was recently proclaimed, to preserve the natural beauty and historical significance of the area. We are situated on the boundary of the Park. Our cottage was constructed for the Quarry manager, for the bluestone quarry that operated in the adjoining creek. The bluestone was quarried for the Ballarat area to be used on roads and gutters.

Midvale Shopping Centre is 5 minutes drive from us, and hosts a large IGA supermarket (open 7am-10pm daily); newsagent/post office; butcher, bakery, chemist, hairdresser.
Midvale also has takeway food shops : Chicken shop; Subway; noodles; fish and chips.

Buninyong (Victoria's first inland town established 1839), is 6km away with historic buildings, coffee shops, gift shops, museum etc.

Federation University is situated 1km away, and we are located at the back of the campus.

Sovereign Hill is about 7 minutes from us.

The main shopping area of Ballarat is about 10 minutes from the Cottage.
