Beautiful, coastal chalet-style detached house, less than five minutes walk from the gorgeous West Mersea coastline, famed for it's scenery, sailing, walks and bird-watching and oyster bars.

It's a light, spacious, comfy, warm, spotlessly clean and well furnished holiday home with a well-established and totally private garden, including garden furniture for sitting outside on beautiful days.

Large, bright triple-aspect living room, beautiful oak farmhouse kitchen and two double bedrooms.

The space
Our cosy home is in a lovely village, with good-sized, very private gardens to relax in, and lots of countryside and beach walks on quiet paths, tracks and oceanside. It's available for adults only.

It isn't a 5* hotel, but it's clean, well equipped, and comfy.

Supermarkets deliver to this address. Lots of takeaway, deli and delivery food available too.

The house is clean, spacious, very bright with lots of big windows, all day sunshine pouring in, and has a beautiful, mature, very private garden.

Suitable for holidays or for longer stays for work, etc. Just ask us if a longer stay is possible.

Two double bedrooms with fantastically comfortable beds, one is king size, one is a double. Electric blankets on both beds.

Light, sunny bathroom with bath and over-bath shower fitted.

Just a very short walk to the beaches and boats, shops, cafes and pubs of West Mersea.

Has off street parking for 2 cars.

Please note - the house does not have an internet connection. We just tether our lap tops to our mobile data and that works well for us.

There's a large TV in the lounge. There's also a good selection of books and heaps of lovely things to do locally!

A small selection of independent, unique shops to browse, character cafes, a vineyard, a country park (it sometimes has outdoor theatre, etc), Parkrun, a 13 mile walk around the stunning coast of the whole island, great pubs (our favourite is The Coast Inn for food, sofas, vibe and sea front outdoor seating too. 10 minutes stroll from the house).

Cosy with central heating throughout.

Check in is after 2pm only.

Check out is by 11am always.

Extremely peaceful, friendly and safe neighbourhood.

Very picturesque in parts, with great sea and coast views, and a 13 mile walking trail all around the edge of the island (we walked it in sections).

Neighbourhood watch area.

Tons to do - see below!

Cudmore beachside park (great for views, walks and bird watching)

History and culture:

Fuel station

Sporting Activities:
Park run (Held at Cudmore Park)

Our favourite for great food, great service, real fire, and a friendly, relaxed bar area with sofas!

The Art Cafe: The best place on the island for a cooked breakfast, with paintings from local artists for sale (2 Coast Road, West Mersea; )

West Mersea Oyster Bar: A great alternative to the Company Shed. Menu highlights include the oysters, seafood platter and fish and chips (Coast Road, West Mersea;

Mehalah's at Oysters & Ale: An East Mersea outpost from the family behind the Company Shed. Open all day (except Wednesdays) for breakfast, simple seafood dishes, sandwiches and cakes.

You can take home some ale from the adjacent microbrewery, including a traditional stout made with oysters!

They'll also make up a picnic hamper for a day at the beach. (East Road, East Mersea;s)

Maria's Vintage Tearooms: vintage-tearoom

Walking and nature:

Why not take the local ferry over to Brightlingsea and drop in at a great cafe for lunch:
Birdwatching cruise from/to West Mersea:

Lady Grace Boat Trips: In summer 20-minute sightseeing trips around the bay depart from the pontoon. In winter the boat can be hired for fishing and birdwatching trips.

Mersea Island Vineyard and Brewery. Tours and tastings can be organised of this small vineyard and micro-brewery. The café serves afternoon tea (

We are a happy, active self-employed couple. We are in our late 50s and are very well travelled.

We're English, but we're living in NZ for a while.

We own 2 properties in the UK (on Airbnb) so we understand about being clean, careful and considerate while in your property.

We are fun and sociable, but also independent - we like to chat, but we are just as happy with solitude.

Julie is an expert horse trainer, specialising in retraining problem behaviours, but mainly we are free of work now and are just into enjoying what life has to offer.

We strongly prefer a proper double bed, and not two singles pushed together! Otherwise, we are pretty easy-going.

We eat a specific diet, so there's no need to provide breakfast for us.
