A splendid Country house in London, formerly owned by two Lord Mayors of London, close to Greenwich Park yet quick to Central London.

Hamilton House is a n elegant and welcoming historic Grade 11 listed private residence occupying a prime position in the heart of Royal Greenwich.

The house, arranged over four floors, provides 7,150 sq ft of accommodation.

The property is equally suitable for a large family or several families or for business meetings.

The space
The house is a short walk to Greenwich Park the centre of a World Heritage site. Built in 1734, the house has a fascinating history with the Enderby family, builders of whaling boats, tea-clippers - the forerunners of the Cutty Sark - with the Twining tea family and two former Lord Mayors of London.

The original wood panelling of the Entrance Hallway gives onto the Drawing Room, the Dining Room, a smaller ‘Snug’/TV Room and a lovely Music Room with a Bosendorfer grand piano.

The Drawing Room is delightful and enjoys an abundance of natural light and gives onto the South facing garden.

The Dining Room seats up to sixteen guests and provides stunning views over the River Thames to Canary Wharf.

The kitchen is stylish and sophisticated yet remains wonderfully practical, designed for either family cooking or a professional chef.

On the lower ground floor there is a breakfast room for informal dining, a further ‘Snug’ that leads up to the garden terrace, a practical utility room plus the original vault for storing the family silver!

There is a lovely, calm former ‘Chapel’ overlooking the Heath where one can just sit, contemplate and relax.

On the top floor is the king-size Bligh Suite, with its own small West-facing balcony where the setting summer sun can be enjoyed, with views over Canary Wharf - a dramatic contrast to the period elegance of the property - and where the first owner would have had views of their historic shipyards in Deptford.

Its sunny South-facing walled garden provides seclusion and privacy. It is beautifully tended with an abundance of flowers, shrubs and trees and has purposeful seating and dining areas: it retains the inner tranquillity of a country house garden in London.

There is an attractive rear courtyard for deliveries.

The house looks onto the common of Blackheath, where in 1381 Watt Tyler led the Peasants’ revolt, and the spire of its pretty village church - a thriving, popular village with tree lined boulevards that gives you a feeling of stepping back in time whilst also having several modern restaurants and designer boutiques.

There is one parking place in front of the house and parking for four cars, off-road parking, at the rear of the house.

During your stay

You may be apprehensive about walking into what is a large house and thinking it might be complex to sort out if there are any problems. In which case, good news. We have a wonderfully resourceful and supportive Housekeeper, Carol, who will be there to greet you on your arrival and who will be your first port of call regarding any problems that might arise. She comes to the house regularly, but will be well out of your way, just to look after the garden, the fabric of the house, the fish, the dustbins ... that kind of thing ... and so will be someone who can advise you on all sorts of things, should you have the need.
