Some info has been automatically translated.
Houses built of straw, wood poles, bamboo and string were typical to this region in the eighteenth century. This Choza has been build with more windows than original traditional ones, to let in the light in keeping with modern living.

The space
The Choza Grande was designed with a gathering of friends or family in mind.

It has a spacious living-dining room with a natural limestone floor, antique sideboards and a large dining table.

Beneath the mezzanine are two large sofas (both of which can be used as single beds), two armchairs and a staircase leading up to a sleeping platform beneath the eaves.

Off the dining area you’ll find a rustic kitchen and off that an unusual, blue bathroom. Multiple windows in this Choza mean that sunlight streams through it all day long.

Set among 500 m₂ of private garden with a large picnic table in the shade of an ancient olive wild tree, this is our most secluded property.

Although beautifully cool in the summer, some people need the electric heater in the winter. Regardless, many people return time and again to enjoy this unique and magical place to stay.

Although pets are welcome at Casas Karen, we do not accept pets at this accommodation.

Guest access
We recommend walking, the beach is close by and there are shops, bars and restaurants nearby. The village of Caños is about 15 minutes walk away as is Trafalgar Lighthouse.
At Casas Karen we have parking right in front of the accommodation and also inside for some of the houses.

Other things to note
The Trafalgar lighthouse separates the main bay of Caños from the more open water of the Atlantic on the other side (a sublime place to watch the sunset). The area itself is famous for its surfing, swimming and deep-sea-diving, and breathtaking countryside is perfect for walks, bicycle-tours and horse-riding through the hills and meadows of the Natural Park of the Breña y Marismas del Barbate.

WE HAVE AVAILABILITY! Please send us a message. Currently we have a technical issue with the availability calendar.

One of the least spoiled and most spectacular coastlines in Spain. You won´t find big hotels or high-rise buildings here, rather a pretty seaside village arranged along the cliff tops with one of the most unspoiled beaches in Andalucía just a 5-10 minute walk away.

Spanish Down Hi :) Have been living in this small paradice in Los Caños de Meca since 1987. I am originally from Belgium and have lived in England for 10 years. What's Casas Karen? 7,600 M2 of natural Wild gardens, in nature, with a few eco- friendly houses and totally thatched Chozas, cottages sprinkled around. Casas Karen has grown organically over the years and is a unique eco-friendly getaway located on one of Spain's most beautiful and less discovered coastlines: the Costa de la Luz, which is named for its extraordinary light. We are located in the small beach hamlet of Los Caños de Meca surrounded by the beautiful natural park, by Cape and Lighthouse Trafalgar where the Battle of Trafalgar took place in 1805. Casas Karen pays tribute to life on the Costa de la Luz long before the tourists arrived comprising a collection of chozas (traditional, thatched straw houses) that were typical to the region in the eighteenth century, as well as as converted farm buildings and one beach apartment, scattered throughout our untamed, native gardens. We hope you'll find it a place to rest, rewind and get a taste of the real Costa de la Luz. Casas Karen is a special place to unwind, located in a beautiful, secluded corner of the Spanish coast: the Costa de la Luz, a name that reflects its extraordinary brightness. Our houses are located in the small beach town of Caños de Meca, next to the emblematic site of the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
Casas Karen is a tribute to life on the Costa de la Luz since time immemorial, before the arrival of tourism, and comprises a collection of 'chozas' (traditional thatched-roof houses) typical of the region in the 18th century, as well as renovated country houses scattered throughout our gardens, which are home to beautiful native plants. We also have an apartment right on the beach We hope that it will be a place of rest for you, where you can disconnect and recharge, as well as get an authentic taste of the Costa de la Luz.
