Rustic Elegance + Northwoods Flare Less than 10 minutes from Hayward. Take in the island view panorama from the front porch. The Glamper has a semi-open floorplan with a full kitchen+utensils. A Row-0-Flames heater keeps things warm and cozy inside. Showers are outside during the warmer months or next door at Loon Lake Guesthouse when temperatures fall below 32 degrees. Instead of indoor plumbing it has a thoughtfully designed camp-style water set-up. The toilet is an outhouse. NEW... Wifi!

The space
This is a stylish, well appointed 24x32 space that's fully electric with a camp-style water system and full kitchen. Beds are tucked behind room dividers with a small dressing area in the corner. With just the right amount of creature comforts it's an ideal getaway for writers, yogis, musicians or anyone longing to step into nature and refresh their senses.

It includes a comfy sectional sofa with a dining table that overlooks the lake.

Create meals to remember in the FULL KITCHEN made of upcycled office furniture, a mid-size fridge, gas range, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, water dispenser, dishes, silverware, pots and pans, utensils, etc.

There's also a WASH UP STATION with just the right equipment to help keep things clean. In the freezing months, the water source is next door at Loon Lake Guesthouse using jugs and carts. I fill it before your arrival and from then on it's all yours. In the winter months you can fill when you use the guesthouse shower. When the weather warms up there's spigot located on the porch by the outdoor shower.

A string-lit path leads to the outhouse located behind the studio.

There is NO indoor plumbing or conventional toilet in the studio.

Guest access
Some of the CLOSET SPACE in the studio is considered “host area”.

Guests are free to walk on around the property except where it would obviously infringe on the privacy of other guests.

THE GAZEBO down by the lake is available to all guests. It also has a campfire ring. If you need campfire wood there are 2 excellent sources nearby. National forest campfire rules apply. Contact host beforehand to confirm there are no burning bans in place.

There’s a CANOE parked down by the lake which guests are welcome to use.

Other things to note
The glamper is known and loved for being novel and stylish with a camp style water set-up and and outdoor privy. There is no running water.

VOICE CALLS MARGINAL -- Texts work wells but voice calls aren't always the best. WiFi should be installed by mid January 2021. Information will be posted as soon as I have it.

NOISE —Because there may be guests next door in Loon Lake Guesthouse, there is a limit to how loud things can get studio-side.

SHOWER — Outdoors in warm months. A shared shower space available by appointment next door at Loon Lake Guesthouse when temps are below freezing.

WATER -- Various water vessels are filled with crystal clear well water shortly before guests arrive. In the summer the BPA-free water dispenser in the fridge can be filled by guests from the outdoor shower. In the freezing months, there is a spigot inside the guesthouse shower that can be used when you have shower appointment or the outdoor faucet to left of the main guesthouse entry steps can be used anytime.

The OUTHOUSE —a hole in the ground encased in a wooden structure for privacy. It composts waste with the help of sawdust and barn lime (provided) Guests are asked to toss a scoop of that down once a week. There is a lit pathway and it’s kept as clean as it can be given the nature of outhouses. It’s also very colorful. Hand sanitizer is provided.

TRAIN —It comes through at all hours and with varying frequency. For the majority of guests it’s a beloved part of staying here but it can definitely be heard.

PATHWAYS —The path to the studio entrance is not a paved sidewalk. In fact it’s somewhat uneven with stepping stones. It's definitely not suitable for guests with mobility issues.

CLEAN-UP -- A light tidying up before of surfaces, the fridge and garbage removal is required prior to check out.

EXTENDED STAYS -- Feel free to contact me about adding time to your stay. Oftentimes nights can be added at a discount when there's a space between guests.

Location

Hayward, Wisconsin, United States

The Glamping Studio is 1 of the 3 listings that are part of Loon Lake Guesthouse. It's located just 8 miles from downtown Hayward and 25 minutes from Spooner.

The Namekagon (nam ah cog in) River, designated a National Scenic Wild River by the U.S. Park Service, is truly a local treasure and less that a mile away. It’s known for trout, canoeing, tubing and kayaking in the warmer months. In winter try to make your way to a canoe landing and witness how breathtakingly beautiful it is when surrounded by snow and ice.

In addition to Loon Lake, where guests are welcome to use the canoe or swim (a bit weedy for some), Beaver Lake Town Beach is 1/2 a mile away with a great sandy, family friendly swimming beach.

There’s also a couple of beautiful walking loops right out the driveway. One is about 45 minutes and the other about 25 minutes from the house. Message me for details.

Loon Lake is 15 minutes from Hatchery Park and 25 minutes from the 'Hwy OO' trailhead of the American Birkebeiner cross-country ski and hiking trails.

The TONY WISE MUSEUM OF THE AMERICAN BIRKEBEINER is located in downtown Hayward. It honors my father who — in addition to many other remarkable achievements — is the founder of the Birkie. It cleverly charts the extraordinary 45+ year history of this iconic, world-renowned, cross country ski marathon using state-of-the-art hands-on exhibits including a 3D model of the trail, electronic race scrapbook, artifacts, photos, memorabilia and more. A must see for anyone who appreciates Nordic skiing and Hayward’s colorful history.

The area surrounding Hayward's Historic Main Street has many shops, galleries, a winery, post office, outdoor sporting shops, bakery and restaurants. A fun stop to while away an hour or an afternoon.

RESTAURANTS
For your health and the health of others, please read the Covid Requirements in your booking settings that relate to coming and going during the pandemic. Dining-in at restaurants is highly discouraged when staying at Loon Lake Guesthouse. For more about that look under >Booking Settings >House Rules >Additional Rules. Takeout is available at many of these restaurants but calling ahead is important to verify hours. Call early to minimize indoor wait times and to ensure someone answers. Some places don't take calls during peak dining hours.

I'm a lifelong resident of Hayward who loves playing around in the kitchen and gardens. My father, the late Tony Wise, is famous for having started the American Birkebeiner cross country ski race and the Lumberjack World Championships. So with deep roots and an abiding love of the northwoods, I thoroughly enjoy hosting and sharing my backyard with guests.

During your stay
I’m usually here and responsive to messages from 9am - 9pm. It may take an hour or 2 but usually it's right away. After meeting up on arrival to show you the fine points of staying in the Glamper, I tend to stay in the background. If you'd like ideas of where to get takeout or recreational locations, please message me. As a lifelong resident of Hayward with deep roots, I enjoy assisting guests with recommendations so they can make the most of their stay in the area.

I'm in the background unless there's a reason for me not to be.

NOTE: If there’s an urgent need come around to the main front area of Loon Lake Guesthouse where the cars are parked. Ring the doorbell next to the dark red main entry door.
