A comfortable home for 4 guests (optional for 6 guests) on the Island of Aegina, 12 miles (18km) south of Piraeus. Spiti Lange is on a hillside, tranquil, yet close to town and beaches. We have our own swimming pool for your convenience.
The home is located on the Island of Aegina, some 12 miles South of the Port of Piraeus and Athens in the Saronic Gulf. Aegina can be reached by hydrofoil in about 40 minutes and by ferry in about 1hr 15 min. Spiti Lange is nestled on a hillside 100 m above sealevel along the main road between the Port and Town of Aegina and the mountain villages of Tsikides and Parchia Rachi with unmatched views of the Saronic Gulf and the Peloponnese beyond.
The property comprises of about 4900m2 of land on which an olive grove is grown with about 40 olive trees and various others such as almond and lemon. The home is comfortably suitable for up to 4 guests in 2 bedrooms with queen size beds and en-suite bathrooms (main floor and upper floor). If needed, an additional bedroom with en-suite bathroom on the lower floor, sleeping 2, can be made available against charge of Euro30 (E25 off season).
The area - and the island - invites you for shorter and longer nature walks in hilly and mountainous terrain (not recommended in summer). Aegina has a plentitude of well established tavernas both in the mountains, rural areas and at beaches. Beaches are typically smaller, thus no large crowds can gather at any one of them. The island is not frequented by mass tourism. Many of its guests come as individuals and thus blend in with the local and Athenian population.
Spiti Lange has three levels of living space:
Main floor: The entrance to the home is on the main floor. There is the living and dining room, kitchen and one bedroom with en-suite bathroom. in addition there is a spacious terrace with pergola and outdoor dining table.
Upper floor: there is a large master bedroom with en-suite bathroom and a roof terrace featuring fantastic views over the neighboring island of Angistri, the Saronic Gulf and the mountainous areas of the Peloponnese.
Lower floor: this can be made available on request at a little surcharge if needed. It has one additional bedroom with attached bathrooom and opens to a private flagstone terrace facing west towards the private land, Aegina town and the sea. The lower floor also has a separate kitchentte, a fridge and a washing machine for everyone's use.
All rooms have individual aircon/heating systems. Hot water is provided by solar system, which can be switched to electricity in case of inclement weather conditions.
The home comes with all linens and towels (incl bath towels) and all kitchen and dinner utensils and a welcome package.
There is WiFi internet connection and a satellite TV with many international channels in the living room.
Covered parking is available in a carport on the north side of the home.
We will give adequate information for arrival in Athens and timetables for transfer to the island. We will pick you up at the port of Aegina. If you arrive from overseas please arrive during the morning hours till early pm and depart during the afternoon hours to ensure same day arrival and departure to/from the island. For any open question, scheduling, activities and cultural sights, please consult with your host, Gerd.
You have general access to the land around the house respecting the privacy of the neighbor (mother of owner) in her own house. The pool is available courtesy of the owners mother, who typically uses it mid afternoon between 4:30 and 6:30pm. You may consult with her on local activities, she's a treasure on local knowledge.
Interaction with guests
Usually I am not on the island, therefore there will be little interaction in person. I do have adequate arrangements to welcome you and be available in case of any issues. The owner's mother is a neighbor and any contact is voluntary.
There is a chance that I may be on the lower floor of the house completely independent, but dates can be adjusted depending on your wish for privacy. On the other hand, if there, I could lead you to wonderful island walks and excursions (no charge, just for the fun of it).
There shall be no smoking in the house, otherwise rules are relaxed. After all, it is your holiday.
There is a binder on the dining table or the buffet in the living room, which gives numerous relevant information.
One issue is the air conditioning. Electricity is extremely expensive in Aegina, and I kindly ask you to use the aircon system sparingly during afternoon hours and please turn it off when you are away from the home for a longer time. Open windows and doors will provide a nice and welcome breeze in the mornings and evenings. Thank you.

For some time now, I have retired from the World Bank in Washington, DC and still live in the area with my wife. As my mother lives on the Island of Aegina we were frequent visitors and finally built our own home close to my parents.
I love all outdoor activities, such as swimming, sailing and hiking. Those can be done very conveniently in Aegina. There are areas, where one doesn't see a soul in an hour or more hiking in rural parts of the island.
There is history: classical, temples and ancient settlements, and byzantine, monasteries and many rural chapels.
And there are plenty of beaches, all relatively small (thus no big crowds except summer weekends) and tavernas, all of which I love to frequent.
Enjoy Aegina - it is not a mass tourism spot.
