Beautifully renovated 3400 sq.ft. home, built in 1910, in historic district adjacent to all the 'happening' downtown revitalization, art, restaurants, music clubs in Durham. About 9 blocks from Duke east, 6 blocks to downtown.

The space
The house: 3400 sq.ft., built in 1910 & beautifully renovated. The ROOM for guests: is upstairs, has a double bed, and a double-bed couch that pulls out for additional persons with a modest-sized TV; The upstairs bathroom is beside room & has a glass brick shower, large jaccuzzi tub, and 3 large stained glass windows. My housemate across hall who also shares bath, when here. I have a friendly medium-sized cock-a-poo dog.

I'm lively, outgoing, artsy, and strongly social justice minded. After getting a Master's degree in Public Health at UNC-Chapel Hill, I was a co-founder of the Brown Lung Ass'n, an organization of textile workers, disabled from breathing cotton dust in the mills - similar to Black lung & coal miners. I'm a white southerner who proudly worked in the civil rights movement. I also was a real estate agent for 12 years, and now I'm in a New Orleans-style 'second line' band, the Bulltown Strutters (we rock!). I've delightedly been traveling last few years to Peru, Tanzania, Argentina, Croatia, Turkey - and will be going to Russia this year. My motto, like Janice Joplin, is "Get it while you can" - and my favorite movie is "Steel Magnolias", although since seeing 'Kite Runners' recently, I really loved it as a great story of redemption. I have two friendly & adorable dogs, medium-sized - just so you know, in case of allergies or such. I was also advised by a recent very favorably reviewed traveler to tell folks a few extra details for your own special needs: the room is upstairs, and the bed is double sized, and there is also a couch in the room. (i.e., COULD accomodate 3) On week nights, the bath is also used by my housemate who is an operating room nurse, and uses it from 8:30-9:30 am (late) before leaving for work. I really enjoy meeting new people!

During your stay

I just retired, so I will have time to talk, -- unless I have to go somewhere by a certain time. I can also NOT interact much if they don't wish to. I'm on the go a lot.
